Alabama 41, scum 14 (final)

A weak conference hasn't been a problem for Oregon or Stanford in recent years or USC in the last decade. Oklahoma State (as well as Stanford) was above Bama in both polls and the BCS, and were largely fucked over because their loss was to Iowa State and happened two weeks after Bama's. The Boise State and TCU situations are irrelevant unless the Big Ten is ever perceived to be weaker than the WAC/Mountain West/whatever, which is never going to happen.

I highly doubt a 1-loss champion Meyer OSU team gets left out of a playoff barring extraordinary circumstances.

When the Pac-12, ACC, and Big-12 manage to get 2 undefeated teams among them (or 1 undefeated and a 1-loss high-profile USC/Oregon/Texas), a 1-loss B1G champion will be in a media perception battle with other 1-loss champions and the SEC's #2 team. I wouldn't consider that to be extraordinary circumstances, and it's very possible that a 1-loss tOSU team could win the B1G CCG and end up #5 in a year where the rest of the B1G isn't impressive.

TSUN got the hell beat out of them and it could linger for another week. Losing their best CB(Countess?) is going to really hurt. He made them better. TSUN was over-matched on both lines. But most teams will have that problem with this 'Bama team.
As for the BIG this year. It looks like a down year based purely on this past weekend.
MSU is not as good but will get better on offense. Defense is excellent.
TSUN has spotty talent. Losing Countess hurt them big time. DR led offense will still be good but not as good as last year. Defense took a couple steps back.
Nebraska has lost Burkhart for a bit. Martinez looks better passing but we've seen this before. Doubt he will ever be more then just decent in the pass game. Explosive runner. WRs look a bit better but passing is still a weakness until proven otherwise. Defense will be solid.
Wisconsin? Their offense has taken a step back after losing Wilson who bailed them out many times last year. New QB has a low ceiling. Their defense is just average.
Iowa. They look thoroughly medocre right now.
Purdue could surprise and will bare watching as the season goes along. This is my dark horse pick to win the Leaders. Have to look at their schedule....

The real mystery is why scUM was ranked in the top ten in the first place. I realize it was probably to crate hype around the game, but still...

I don't know if you can make a judgment of whether this or that conference is "down" after the first game of the season.

I tell ya....

I was posting on this game, but after the pimp slappin that Bama gave to TSUN.....dayum.

There's no way a person who watched any football this year can say at this point that Bama shouldn't be the #1 team in the country this year. They were so damn dominant in that game. Physical, aggressive, etc, etc.

USC was impressive, yes. But not like that. Bama dominated from the kickoff.

Michigan should have not been ranked preseason. The reason they were is for ratings/ giving Alabama a boost when they beat them like a rented mule. Alabama is not as good as last year. If Hoke would have had DR run the ball more the game would have been better.

Michigan had 2 true corners transfer on the offseason. They lost their best CB this weekend. Not only will this force them to burn redshirts but it may also make them use walkon corners. When they play teams like Purdue they may have to use safeties in coverage. Purdue has some very good WR's.

Teams are gonna spread Michigan out and torch that secondary. Team like OSU and NEB will score at will because their QB's can pass/run. NW/ND should put up Tecmo Bowl numbers as well.

I see only 1 sure victories on their schedule and that UMASS. Even Minny with Gray might cause them problems.

Any more CB's go down they can stick their head between their legs and kiss their ass goodbye.

1,000,000X this. Preseason rankings need to be eliminated. There should not be any rankings done until after week 3 is completed.

I'm a person who has watched football for a lot longer than one year. Deciding on an unequivocal #1 after a single week of play is ridiculous.

It's also a big reason why the poll/ratings systems are so screwed.

This is pushing it. No one claimed that we shouldn't have been ranked when we got torched in those title games, nor did we fall out of the rankings when SC torched us in 08. Is Michigan a top 10 team? Obviously not. Are they in the 15-25 range..probably. It's hard to argue that a team coming off an 11-2 year and a Sugar Bowl win doesn't deserve to be ranked, even if the schedule/bowl matchup was a bit soft. There have been some decent teams blown out in these early season matchups over the years.

NEB will score at will because their QB's can pass/run.

Since when? Michigan's defense will struggle but they won't face that kind of physicality up front again. Their secondary is thin but teams like Minnesota and Northwestern don't have the type of weapons that an Alabama has. Denard will still be able to light up MOST defenses he will face this season.

Disagree - only because DR tried to play the 'imapussy' card a few times during the game.

I agree with this statement - let me explain mine - my thought process was to state that Bama is obviously the better team between them and USC. I think preseason polls are ridiculous, but that's what we get when TexPN tries to control everything (cue SEC, USC, Longhorn Network and the BCS).

Having watched both games, however, it's just my honest opinion that Bama is the more physical and complete team at this point.

Of course, all that is moot the moment they run into some adversity - but then again, who do they play that will really test them this year?

I have no issue with that...it's also not quite the same as how you originally phrased it.

Aggie & Mizzoura.

Duh.
