Akron Zips at tOSU, Sep 25th, 7:30pm BTN

That's kinda normal. Still dumb, don't get me wrong, but kinda normal.

This is literally the stupidest thing ever. Complaining about someone not getting 100 yards in a 52 point fucking win. Just enjoy it and move on.

Probably just me, but I am sorely tempted to start a separate thread entitled, “I Know We Won, a Whole Bunch to a Pittance, But Did We Do It the Right Way.”

Alright, so here are my observations from C Deck last night buttressed by watching the replay of the game. Had awesome seats and a great view of all the action.

1. McCord held his own after a slow start but I think the coaches have it right at the moment if we have a healthy Stroud. Had the freshman yips and I think he has tremendous potential, but most of those yards came on routine short passes that the receivers broke off for big plays (ironically the same knock on Stroud). Settled in some, but pocket presence and awareness needs big improvement. Miller liked very good and while it was towards the end of the game, he was also playing mostly with backups and walk ons...I feel very comfortable with him if he has to come in.

2. So our big plays come from short passes that the receivers break a big play on, so what? I get that you can't always rely on it and it would be nice to see some intermediate to deep completions that are contested, but when you have the playmakers we do, get them the ball in space.

3. We are soooo lucky Haskell the Rascal came back, we would be screwed without him. Makes play after play and is the heart and soul of this defense. As to the other DTs, there were some positives. The obvious one being Tyleik, who has undoubtedly earned himself a bunch of snaps moving forward and may even find himself in a starting role. Jackson had some really nice plays and I feel his body of work this season is pretty solid. I think DTs are the strength of the DL this year. At DE, the injury to Friday is hurting us and no Ty Smith really hurts. Harrison seems to be coming along but we're going to have to be overly reliant on JTT and Sawyer... they're amazing talents, but having to rely on the freshman that heavily is not ideal.

4. The LB position continues to concern me... seem flat footed and wait for everything to come to them. Only guy that I think has been pretty solid is Simon, with Chambers showing promise despite the recent position change. The transfer of Gant could hurt, as could the Pope dismissal but I think that is not really a loss and more the media loving drama.

5. GET GARRETT WILSON OUT OF PUNT RETURNS. Not because he isn't talented, but because the punt return is essentially obsolete now. The guy either gets a good return called back, he fumbles, he gets destroyed and injured, or gets 10 yards. None of those outcomes is worth getting what might be our best WR hurt. Put someone less essential with good hands back there and let our talented offense take the field.

6. JSN is at least in the same breath as Olave and Wilson, dude is so well rounded in every facet of the game. Will be our leader on offense next year. GW looked damn good too. But I think as good as our WRs are, our identity might be run-first, which I'm ok with given the talent at RB and the makeup of our OL.

7. We've got some talent in the defensive backfield. LOVE Hickman, Martinez is adjusting well to the position, Burke is damn impressive and keeps growing, Watts is solid, and other than stupid penalties JK Johnson looks to have a lot of talent. It will help to get Brown back and I don't recall seeing Ransom out there, who I think is skilled. Banks was pretty disappointing in his return tbh, maybe that's why he wasn't playing? Cavazos showed signs of life, but also why he got passed up imo. And while Shaw wasn't terrible or anything this game, I still can't believe we can't get one of Hickman, Martinez or Ransom back to the high safety even if their skill set isn't ideal for the position...I just think they're an upgrade in a "get your best 11 on the field" mantra.

8. Really fun to watch the alumni band get involved and Script Ohio is so damn fun. Kudos to the band and alumni last night for a great performance.

All in all, had a blast with my dad and you can't beat a night game in the Shoe. We figured out that it was almost 10 years since we had been to a game together. Ate some Adriatico's by Mirror Lake (it was slammed to get a seat), walked The Oval, and got a beer at Varsity Club...can't beat it. Go Bucks!

There's more to some of those short passes and YAC. The first big play Wilson broke on the bubble was absolutely perfectly thrown by McCord. If he throws that any other way, the DB might have tripped up Wilson because he just misses him. Those little nuances are what we're looking for, getting the specials the opportunity to be special.

In the Oregon game I was thrilled and impressed with CJs passes down the seam but he looked like a different guy out of the pocket and passes on the outside. They are all young and inexperienced. I say the first one to put it together give em the reigns and lets go win something

Just wanted to reiterate, as I'm watching the game again doing a bit of analytical meditation, BTN has a great team in Laurinaitis, Gaudin and Pizzo(sp?) and I want to see more games with them on the broadcast. They were intelligent in their conversations without any nonsensical back story or off topic dialogue. BTN all around for this game was excellent. Instead of some commercial time they showed the band and people behind the scenes. Other than the fact we smashed Akron, it was a really good watch.

And any player that worries about his individual stats over helping the TEAM win should never see the field.
Why is everyone defending not letting Treyveon getting his 100 not bitching about leaving him in the Tulsa game long enough to break Archie’s freshman single game rushing record? You can’t have it both ways.

We call them “conclusions” because they come at the end of the thought process. They’re not a starting point. It’s an established fact that 100 yds is a benchmark for a running back. The NCAA keeps records for backs that rush for 100 yds in a game. Nobody keeps records of backs who rush for 93 yds. If Henderson doesn’t start on Saturday then we’ll know that he got pulled because he was dinged up. If he starts and plays well then I’ll conclude that the coaches weren’t paying attention to the stats and pulled him too quickly. My prediction is the latter. Tressel and Meyer would’ve both let him get his 100.

it’s possible Henderson could have reached 100 yards, but only if he was wearing thicker socks…

@Hetuck

Players do care about stats. A hundred yard game is a good game for a good running back.

Henderson just set the freshman rushing record last week. He’s got goals. I assume those include winning the Big Ten, making and winning a championship, and hopefully a Heisman and/or Doak Walker award. I doubt he had “getting 7 more yards so I could break 100” was on the list.

My guess is he enjoyed hanging out on the sideline and cheering for Pryor grabbing his first TD.
Your guess is that since the Buckeye coaches did it then it must’ve been the right thing to do. You’re an apologist. You’re starting with the conclusion and thinking backwards. Have you ever heard a coach say that someone from the booth buzzed them and said that some player just needed something in order to hit some mark? I have, from OSU coaches as well as others. 100 yds for a running back would be one of those marks. Obviously that didn’t happen.

Don’t approach it like a lawyer who takes an arbitrary position and then tries to argue for it. If you don’t get the fact that letting your emerging star RB get 100 yds against a cupcake like Akron then you might be new to college football.

TULSA: Henderson's final carry came with 6:49 left in the 4th quarter, Ohio State leading 27-20; Ohio State scores with 3:05 left to go up 34-20; Tulsa throws a pick six with 1:50 left to put Ohio State up 41-20; Tulsa runs out the clock.

AKRON: Henderson's final carry came with 7:18 left in the 2nd quarter, Ohio State leading 28-7; Akron throws a pick six with 4:43 left in the 2nd quarter to put Ohio State up 35-7, effectively ending the game before halftime.

I trust that you can see the vast difference between the two scenarios, and realize that Henderson wasn't left in the Tulsa game "long enough to break Archie's freshman record" but rather "long enough so that Ohio State could actually win the damned game."

Your guess is that since the Buckeye coaches didn’t do it then it must’ve been the wrong thing to do. I missed the part where Henderson was sulking on the sidelines, threw his gear into the stands, and called out the coaches and the school on Twitter, all because he didn’t get 7 more yards. Are you sure you aren’t confusing Pope and Henderson? Emerging star RB has already emerged. He set the school record for a freshman last week, running for 277. I don’t know for sure, but common sense tells me he was happy to see his fellow freshman get some carries instead, based on all the hype about them coming in together.

Describing me as an “apologist” would suggest I’m defending something controversial. The staggering number of contrary posts and common sense should tell you that you are arguing a controversy that doesn’t exist.

I can’t believe we’re arguing this with a veteran account. Are things ok at home? If you’ve been kidnapped, post twice in a row without using the multi-quote feature.
