Akron RB Dennis Kennedy (official thread)

I like to see that the staff is not bound by '"rankings" or "ratings". The "chip on the shoulder factor" is something I like versus a player who is 5 star and is having his arse waxed every way he turns.

To me, this is like buying into something (like an investment) that is undervalued and can only exceed expectations.

I never saw Kennedy play but his coach had some sparkling remarks about the kid which, of course, must be taken with a grain of salt since he's just doing his job and getting his kid a scholarship.

Down here in South Florida, it is not uncommon for there to be 3,4, or even 5 real studs on a team-- in different classes, etc, who all deserve to carry the mail via hand-offs or catches so stats are not all that telling. I'm not saying this is definitely the case with Kennedy but I'd willingly speculate that he has some teammates who are solid skill guys.

As a sidebar, I have a friend who coaches D-Line for Atlantic HS (Delray) and when they played St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale) in the playoffs he said they had a 6'8" O-Lineman who they ran behind all day and the kid is pure muscle, 260, and was only a Sophmore this year and a complete monster. I'll keep a lookout.

Regarding that OL I mentioned one post up... I think they went on and won state behind that kid... not positive but they certainly beat Atlantic HS.

Mil, I like the Simon Champion tag.

Also, yes, I'm really happy with the class. I noticed something on rivals yesterday. If you look at this year's class and click on DBs, within the team rankings page, this year we are currently ranked 2nd, and if you click on 2003 we are ranked 1st. It does seem like we are "DB U".

Dennis Kennedy (Fater Update)

Mr. Kennedy was originally at the VA hospital in West Palm Beach, and then moved to the VA Hospital in Miami, close to the University and the Kennedy family. As I mentioned before, he has lung cancer, and has never smoked!

He received around 10 - 20 cards from Ohio, and was unbelievably thrilled and happy. I am sorry the cards that were received after he was moved were not received by him and sent back. I guess to believe that they would transfer the cards between VA hospitals was incorrect on my part.

At this point, Mr. Kennedy has been sent home to be with his family as there is nothing left that anyone believes will help him. He has chosen to be with his family and Hospice.

My final plea is to ask you to help me reassure the Kennedy family, that Dennis is making a transition from his current family to our Buckeye family. At great risk, and with Mrs. Kennedy’s permission, I am posting their home address. Please show the love and respect that I learned playing at The Ohio State University, towards the Kennedy family.

No one knows what kind of career Dennis Kennedy will have at OSU. But what we all do know is the commitment, desire and love he and his family have shown towards OSU by telling all Universities, including the University of Miami, that he would not consider any other schools but The Ohio State University.

Again, please show love and respect:

Thanks for the update HH. Terrible news, but glad that Hospice is there to help. They are incredible at what they do, as I have experienced first hand.

The Kennedy family continues to be in my thoughts.

Thank you, to eveyone who sent Mr. Kennedy cards. I wish you all could see the joy they brought to him and his entire family.

The love and inner strength this family has is incredible.

Of course, coaching staff has contacted the family and sent their prayers this evening.

The funeral will be Monday or Tuesday. I will post the details once they have been arranged.
