AFC Wildcard: Jets at Bengals(-2.5)

Don't forget to adjust for inflation.

The best part about this game: Every Bengals fan I talked to this week tried to convince me that getting blown out last week by the same team was in no way indicative of how this one was going to go. Not to mention they closed the regular season losing 3 of 4.

Yeah, the Bengals are going to turn it on once the postseason arrives - that's what they're known for. :slappy:

I got the same shit.

"Oh we weren't trying, we're going to show up saturday and kill you guys"

Nice to see them really show up.

Also nice to see the refs make some BS calls for the Bungals and they were not able to capitalize.

Bengals fans are delirious because they walked through a weak AFC North.

what are you talking about? the north was probably the toughest division in football this year. I thought we'd show up better than we did but its' what happens when your wr's dont catch, your line doesnt do a good job in pass protection and your defense gets no pressure and doesnt cover well.

Explain to me how the north was tough.

Don't tell me the Steelers are tough. They were decimated by injuries making them a mere shell of the team they were last year.

The Browns maybe? They looked real tough this year at 5-11

Then there's Baltimore that actually looks like a real threat and you guys scraped past them. Which they are probably going to get worked tomorrow.

Good luck next year delirious Bengals fan.

Eidt: I forgot to add don't tell me about receivers not catching we have Braylon Edwards

the AFC North was the 3rd weakest Division this year....I think....they haven't published that stat yet.

The NFC West and NFC North were the two weaker divisions I think...

All I know is my team that was 4-11-1 a year ago went 10-6 and won its division. I'll take it.

Did I expect to win a SB? No. Did I expect to win a playoff game? Yes. So I am mildly disappointed. But injuries started to pile up as the season went on. Our best DE, TE, OLB & S were all on IR by the time the playoffs started. (It's not a coincidence that one of the hottest teams going right now Dallas has 0 players on IR.) So all things considered it was a gigantic step forward from 2008.

As Buckeyes fans we all know the value of Defense. Say what you want about Cincinnati because you're predisposed to mock them. But there is a TON of young Defensive talent on this team. Domata Peko, Ray Maualuga, Jonathan Joseph, Leon Hall, Keith Rivers, Pat Sims & Michael Johnson. The Offensive line that is young & under contract should get better with more time together. Teams that run the ball and play defense are a tough out. That is this teams identity.

This team might fall back into obscurity. The schedule is going to be tougher with NE, Indy & SD already penciled in. But I do like the cornerstone pieces at the important spots. (O and D lines)

...and how about those Cincinnati Bengals? [hold for laugh/groans] Tough loss for the "AFC North Champions". [pause] That's kind of like saying I was the Clifton, NJ stickball champion in 1958...I was the only kid in the neighborhood who didn't have polio! [hold, turn to band] Polio! [hold] My best friend Joey made a great second base. [pause] Oh, he didn't play second base, he couldn't walk. He was second base! [long hold]

But, the Bengal's quarterback, Carson Palmer, did achieve something that no man had ever done before...his first pass attempt of the game has just entered the Earth's orbit! Top that Neil Armstrong! [long hold] When asked about it, Palmer said, "That's one giant choke job by an over-rated quarterback; one small reason why Cincinnatians miss Marge Schott". [hold for groans] Hey, cut me some slack...we decided to not to do the monologue written by Chad Ochocinco at the last minute...our budget couldn't cover all the props! [long hold]

He's an entertaining guy, that Ocho-stink...Ocho...Nacho-ocho...jingleheimer...[look to stage manager]...what's his name this week? [hold] Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter at this point. [hold] There was a kid on my block, Travis, who acted a lot like Ocho...nueve. He did all the same things: always trying to get attention, changed his name, wore flashy outfits, always playing with balls and toys. [pause] I haven't seen him in years, but I hear you can find him if you go to the bus station parking lot, and ask the guy in the Lincoln if "Saphire" is available for a "date". [long hold]

But you have to hand it to Bengals fans. They stand by their team through thick and thin. [hold for applause] I'm assuming only because they don't know what "thick" feels like! [hold for laugh] But I feel bad for the die-hard Cincinnati fans today. Braving the bitter cold to root on their team, really believing that this could be the year, this could be the game that makes up for all the bitter disappointments in the past! And then the slow realization that their team just isn't that good! [hold] It's like my old man used to say all the time...."Can't you do anything right?!?" [long hold]

But this heart-breaker is really going to test the Cincinnati fan base; show who the true fans are. After today, we'll see two types of Bengal fans: the ones who bought Vikings jerseys this year, and the ones who are stuck with the Troy Aikman jerseys hanging in their closet. [motion to band]

I think you're really going to enjoy our musical guests tonight, they're headin' for the big time...the Cocteau Twins!

The Steelers are a tough team, I hate them and hope they do bad every year but they still were a tough team. They have one of the best QB's in football, a great wr in Santonio, another good one in Whines Hard, one of the best TE's in football and a tough Defense. The Ravens once again have a solid defense with a very good QB and RB's. The Browns, well they're the Browns so they dont count then add the Bengals in because we had a hell of a year. Say what you want about us not having a strong division but we almost got three teams in the playoffs. We had two and so did hte AFC East but the the north is still stronger than the AFC East, you have the Pats and the Jets, but beyond that is nothing.

Is that all you know?

The Bungle fanbase will depopulate by at least half after that game. Mostly due to the bandwaggoners falling off.....

We?

who's we???

Face it, the AFC North got 2 automatic wins per team because of the Browns being bad and the Bengals and Ratbirds got two more wins each because the Squeelers finally got hit with the injury bug like everyone else has at certain times over the past 5 years.

The AFC North wasn't that good. And after tomorrow there's a pretty decent chance that the AFC north will be completely eliminated.

What does the fanbase have to do with anything related to the roster or what happens on the field?

You worry about silly pointless things like fanbases. The adults will handle the meat and potatoes of the argument ....

Wow - a bit sensitive are we?

BTW you know I'm right - Cincy Bungle fans have been bandwaggoning all year long (not you or really anyone else here I don't think), but they did. You know it.

There is going to be a negative aura around this team next year because of this singular game. With a tougher schedule and I'd imagine a tougher AFC North, this was your shot.

Did you forget about Mia just missing the playoff also? You know how we can settle this debate head to head match-ups. Lets see what we got.

Week 4 Baltimore 21 NE 27
Week 5 Cle 6 Buf 3
Week 17 Pit 30 Mia 24
Week 17 Cin 0 NYJ 37

Playoffs Cin 14 NYJ 24

So as it stands the AFC east is up 3-2 and NE will probably own Baltimore tomorrow.

and that Cleveland/Buffalo game should've disqualified both teams from playing ever again because it set the position of quarterbacking back nearly 5 decades....
