AdMonkey stealing more vertical real estate.

You've likely noticed that there's a 500 pixel tall Big Ten Network dynamic news/twitter deal in one of the formerly 250 pixel tall AdMonkey box ad positions. It's a temporary campaign from the B1G, that will run as long as it doesn't cause problems for us, and then we'll be back to the former vertical size in that spot. Deety and I will be keeping an eye on it over the next few days as it's a new ad handled in a different way, but hopefully it won't be an unwelcome addition as what it serves is actually topical. The joke that's already going around (well, the one Deety told me) is that we're going to have to ban AdMonkey from the recruiting forums because he's posting tweets. Eh, it's 5am, it was funny at the time.

Anyway, forgive the short term temporary extra bit of scroll. Do enjoy the content within it, if you so desire. At least it's relevant, and it would be great to forge a cozy relationship with the BTN through FSV/BLS.

I think Admonkey should be banned. I'm tired of baby sitting the motherfucker... it's obvious he's trolling.
I agree. I just saw Rise of Planet of the Apes and it shows just what can happen when you let any monkey start eating your pixels.

Its taking me like 30 seconds to load a page every time I enter a thread while it loads.

I'm getting the same thing. Just started the last couple of days. I've scanned my computer and nothing found.

I've changed the way the BTN ad comes in, that should fix the problem you two were experiencing (although it doesn't explain why you were suffering those load times for it -- could be as simple as a bad network connection between you and the source of the ad, not a big deal either way). Sorry about the issue.

Thanks Clarity. Its hanging a little, but much improved.:osu:

Glad to hear it! There shouldn't be anything in that section slowing the actual threads/posts for you now, as they (the ads) load independently from the rest of the site, so hopefully everything else is routine network stuff that will smooth out for you. I think we lose those BTN ads on 10/1, so either way we'll be back to normal in that spot in a few weeks.

On firefox on linux, it's causing pages to reload while reading a thread. My guess is it's an iframe reload that triggers browser history, but doesn't reload the whole page. It fills my "back-button" history if I'm reading a thread too long (think ones that gator has posted in:)). It's not too big of a deal and mostly affects me because of my way of reading the boards is to click into threads and then back out to move to the next. Others may not even notice it.

Yeah, I noticed that. Annoying behavior built into the applet so the twitter feeds within can update. Seems like they could come up with a 'sexier' way to do that using AJAX or something, but that's probably beyond the scope of ad content. It's gone 10/1, I believe, but I'll hold no grudges for those who choose to block it if it's a headache.

My loads keep hanging, getting the old "Not responding" on the top left of the screen.

I was having some connectivity issues around the same time you posted this. Not to BP or anything that loads here, but I couldn't get on Facebook for a while. So I think/hope there were just some burps on the intarwebs at that point. Do let us know if you continue to have problems. I did check the server and everything is as it should be machine-side.
