we have added the following burners
Brandon Saine 10.38
Lamar Thomas ~10.3
Justin Green 10.67
James Jackson 10.56

in the Tressel era I can't think of anyone who was sub 10.6 (except maybe TG2 or Ray Small)

I mean damn, look at Knowshon Moreno; he's from Jeresy and you don't get much more
northern than that. - but ever since he hit the Georgia backfield... he's become jesse owens.
Gotta watch out what you say about New Jersey being Northern. South Jersey might as well be Alabama.

Imagine how much faster these guys would be if they were to play ball for an SEC team.

I was gonna say the same thing. But I guess I'll put it this way, if those guys don't offer Southern Speed, then I don't know if they can help our team... Those numbers all indicate that the fellas have speed, but Southern Speed is a unique ethereal & mystical creation that you cannot win a National Championship without.

You have been mislead. North of the Mason-Dixon line, a meter really only equals a foot. Therefore, these are 100 feet dash times instead of 100 meters like the real burners run in the south.

We're probably looking at a B10 4x100 championship too. It's hard to imagine that too many other B10 track teams (or football) are able to recruit that much HS sprint talent.

Rather than focusing on how many true speed burners a team has, I look at overall team speed.
This is where the "southern speed" term comes from.

How fast is you defensive front 7? Can your DE's pursue from the back side and can they rush the passer?

Can your LBs shut down plays sideline to sideline, and can they cover?

Obviously you need speed in the secondary, too. But that is also a bigger or smaller factor depending on the defensive scheme. Are you playing very aggressive man-to-man like the Miami teams did, or are you playing alot of zone? Also, as the new term "playing fast" indicates, it's more important to see the play develop and anticipate wehre to go than to try to react after the fact and use speed to make up ground.

Yes, part of it - a big part - is do you have any game breakers. The big play guys who can turn a good gain into a long TD. And I think we match up with just about anyone there. I'm expecting that this year our WRs do a better job of stretching the defense.

Our OL move well enough to pull and get to the second level while still having the size/power to beat the DL.

So, I would say that we have been and continue to be the top team in the Big 10 in regards to team speed. And it looks like JT is bent on maintaining that position.

I would assume that one of RR's top priorities in his first couple of seasons is to improve his team's overall speed.
