Actual driving time to Raleigh?

My friend is talking about driving to the game Saturday morning leaving from Columbus. I did a mapquest and it says 8:40 from columbus to NCSU's campus. He thinks we can make the trip in 6-7 hours. He's not factoring in gameday traffic or parking.

Anyone have a good estimate on how long it takes to get down there?

I was thinking about driving through the night on Friday and arrive early on Saturday to leave us plenty of time to tailgate. He's talking about leaving around 6:00 AM. :ohwell:

I might as well just take off by myself on Friday night. Someone talk some sense to this man!

Traffic is really horrendous around the Triad and into Raliegh on the weekends. You better leave firday night and don't forget the rain and bad storms you maybe confronting. Your buddy needs to take off the rose colored glasses.

I just drove back from North Carolina last week. Granted I live in Cleveland, I agree with Sushi that 8 hours is pretty realistic. If you drive during the night, you will probably do better than 8 hours, especially if you have a heavy foot.

I'll be surprised if it takes you more than 8 hours to get to Raleigh.

Don't take 70 to 77 unless you just happen to live on that side of Columbus.

Take 23S to 35S to 34E to 64E to 77S to 74E to 52E to 40E. I do it 4 times a year or more and it's about 1/2-1 hour quicker than the "mapquest" directions.

It's all highway and the only place you can get "stuck behind a truck" is about 20 mile stretch of 35 in southern Ohio.

It takes me 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 from Greensboro to the center of Columbus depending on stops with 3 kids. With no kids it's 6 1/2 every time. Raleigh is 1 hour and 10 minutes from the 'Boro. It just depends how much you have to stop... you'll be driving for about 7:45 going 4 mph over the posted speed limit.
