Completely agree about taking the test before it's necessary for practice. I took the SAT in 8th grade, junior year, and I think it was twice in my senior year. People get nervous about these tests; taking them repeatedly makes it routine.
Also agree that standardized tests don't tell the whole story... I was lucky enough to have a Dad who took me through the whole prep guide and his college math texts so I'd be a step ahead of the game. Not everyone gets that sort of prep. There are other factors, too - for instance, the last two tests I took had scores differing by more than 100 points. I had a migraine one of the days. So definitely plan to take the test more than once, just in case.

I took the ACT four times and the SAT once. Thought the ACT was much easier. The ACT is more common in Ohio schools than the SAT.
