For those of you who have very recently entered college or recently exited, which of the above tests does OSU want applicants to have taken? I know it used to be the ACT years ago when my Dad went through, but I'm not sure about now. Thanks in advance.

According to their admissions criteria page, OSU will take scores from either of the two tests. It probably can't hurt to take both, but if you only want to take one, I'd suggest you try a practice test for each one and see how you score. Then take the one on which you do better.

To give you some idea where you stand, based on an academic profile of incoming freshmen for this year, the average composite SAT score was 1197 (588 verbal, 609 math). Average ACT score was 26.

Back when I was in HS in NJ, the general attitude was the ACT was for kids who couldnt hack the SAT. It did seem that 99% of the schools me and my friends were applying to only asked for the SAT. Now, almost 20 years later, things may be different. God knows the SAT is......

I believe OSU accepts either SAT or ACT. I was a senior last year and applied to OSU.

SAT is alot easier, but if your are going into any type of science or engineering major you should take the ACT, because that is more focused on math and science.

In my school, our school councilers where telling us about the tests.

They said that Ohio schools want one test(I believe they said SAT) and all schools outside of Ohio want the other.

What I can't remember is whether they said schools in Ohio want the SAT or if that was schools outside of Ohio that want the SAT and schools in Ohio want the ACT.

It really depends on the school. The best thing to do is check with the admissions office of each school. Again, I do recommend both, since you may decide later to apply to different schools you haven't yet considered. Also, both tests can be useful for other things outside of admissions - there are certain scholarships available based on scores. I found a few links... it looks like in general, midwest schools do prefer the ACT.

Edit - Not sure what year all you high schoolers are, but if it's not too late, you should take the PSAT in your junior year, too - good practice, and also good for scholarship purposes...
