Acceleration training drills?

Folanator

Brawndo's got electrolytes...
I have a request.
I am going to help my son's Lacrosse team this pre season on conditioning and speed drill. The weight room and endurance I have down, But I have looked around to find some drills that the acceleration instructors are using to help speed and explosive efforts. The types these private guys and Coach Connleys place (Max I think) are doing to increase a kids speed.

Does anyone have any information that they could send my way that would help me set up some drills for these kids? Box jumps? Resistance? Cone drills? Backwards sprinting? Weighted deep knee walks?

I am an experienced coach/athlete with endurance training, and ran track for a long time in the 70's. But this type of training I am not familiar with. I am too old school I guess.

I am looking for a good book or even if anyone has some articles or drills that are diagramed and written down they might pass along.

Any help here is appreciated.

Thanks!

do a google search on plyometrics.

The theory is (IIRC) that you have fast twitch muscles. While you cant turn regular muscles into fast twitch (i.e. increase the number of fast twitch muscles. You can develop them to make them more effective. This is Plyometrics.

It involves stretching the muscle then immediately contracting it.

BBN beat me to it. Plyometrics is the new science in training that is supposed to benefit endurance athletes and sports that require a quick burst. I am going to incorporate it into my training this year and see how it goes. Runners world had a great article on using it as a workout. If I find it I will send it to you. One word of caution in plyometrics is the susceptibility to injury if drills are performed incorrectly.

Cincy. I played out East (Maine) and played also in College. I was a goalie. A position that did not require much skill. Just large testicles 'cause they throw what ammounts to a solid rubber ball the size of a baseball (but heavier) at 90+ mph from about 10 feet away with nothing more than a helmet, a cup, and a smile. 6 x 6 goal.

Kinda wild sport actually. I loved it more than Hockey and I played that for 15 years.
