ACC and Big 12 Championship Games

Would anyone here be a proponent of a conference championship game in the Big 10? I know I sure wouldn't...not so much because it is another potential roadblock to the BCS, but because it takes away so much (IMO) from the conference, and the importance of the regular season games. Obviously, you still need to play well enough to be number 1 or 2 in the conference, but you would still have have the controversy of who deserves to play and who doesn't. Plus, the OSU/scUM rivalry would lessen, simply because that game would no longer determine who is the conference champ, but rather, which team gets an opportunity to become conference champ. scUM and tOSU would have to be in the same division, meaning you'd almost have to put PSU and either Iowa or Wisky in the other conference, so we would no longer play a lot of the tougher teams in the conference, which, of course, would serve only to decrease our SOS. So, what's the point?

The only way that I would want a Big 10 championship game is if the NCAA required all conferences to have at least 12 teams and play a conference championship game in order to go to the BCS championship game. That way it would be fair for everyone. The Big 10 would have to pick up another team (hopefully ND, but they would probably puss out and join the Big Least). The Pac 10 would have to add 2 teams (San Diego St, Fresno St, BYU, Utah, etc).

maybe so, but as it was said earlier in the thread, the coaches are not for this, just the AD's. The teams do not chose this and therefore "Have to play" instead of "choose to play". I'll admit that i am really splitting hairs here.

regardless, i can't bitch that much, I will be in houston this weekend tailgating my ass off and having a great time and justifing the AD's at the same time

Yesterday was a perfect example of how these "Championship" games are stupid and overblown. For the sake of this argument, I'll even throw USC and UCLA into my rant ..

Of the four games yesterday, here's are the conclusions:

1. The Pac 10 doesn't have another team with a pulse. It was basically USC against a Pop Warner team yesterday. Not only was UCLA not in the same galaxy talent-wise, but they showed no guts and no heart letting SC go (and get it) on 4th down constantly in the 2nd half with the game already decided. If that's the 2nd place team in the Pac 10, then imagine how bad the rest of the teams must be.

2. A Florida State team that was unranked (as of yesterday) are Champions of the ACC.

3. The Big 12 North, ACC Atlantic, & SEC West couldn't produce a team with a pulse to play in the respective Title games. LSU was very overrated, and skated on a nothing schedule. Colorado?? What a joke. I don't ever want to hear again how superior these conferences are to the Big Ten when they can't even produce a halfway decent team out of these respective divisions.

4. And, as bad as it was yesterday, it aint getting any better anytime soon: the Big 12 North consists of Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, & K-State. The Cornhuskers won't be back on the national map anytime soon, and Bill Snyder's departure means that K-State won't be making any noise anymore. For the next five years, that division will produce nothing more than a sacrificial lamb for Texas or Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title game.

Ditto for the ACC Atlantic, unless FSU can get its act together.

Here's my ultimate and final conclusion:

You are a CFB Powerhouse, its August 15th, and I give you two options for which you can sign up for:

a.) You have to play an extra game in the upcoming season, but it will most likely be against a patsy. Yes, it is another game in which your National Title run can be upended, but most likely its nothing more than a scrimmage. And, oh yeah: this game will be at a "neutral site," but could very well be in your home state.

Or,

b.) You don't have to play this extra game, but the last game of your season will be against a team that is your rival, your equal talent-wise, is perenially the 1st or 2nd best team in your conference, and its on the road every other year.

No matter who I am, I'm signing up for a.).
