Just sayin':

1. I remember (many years ago) you would hear stories of players being academically ineligible and/or having to get a certain GPA on courses in the Summer to become eligible to play in the fall, etc. Hell, 28 years ago Andy Katzenmoyer's academic situation made the national news; and they made a joke about the 3 classes he needed to get at least a GPA of 2.0 in.

2. I can't recall any academic issues at all in recent years and I don't recall hearing of any player just dropping off the team for "unknown" reasons either. KUDOs to the athletic department for running what is apparently a "tight ship" on the academic side. They have to be;
a. Screening recruits better and passing on the ones that they deem (let's say) a "very high academic risk".
b. Better enforcement of academic policy to make sure the players attend class and keep up with assignments.
c. Being proactive in addressing academic issues early, etc. before they become an actual eligibility issue.

It's probably all of the above and much more.
