A dyin' breed.
Found this on ohiostatebuckeyes.com. It might have already been posted, but I was reading about the senior players earning their degree this past quarter, and found this to be interesting.

Ohio State Football Players at the Scholar-Athlete Dinner:
1998 15
1999 20
2000 26
2001 24
2002 28
2003 41
2004 43
2005 44

Ohio State Academic All-Big Ten Selections:
1998 12 (third)
1999 11 (sixth)
2000 13 (second)
2001 9 (seventh)
2002 27 (first)
2003 21 (first)
2004 22 (first)

Everyone talks about winning football games, and success off the field, and how Jim Tressel plays a key role in preparing his team to play football. Well, look how he prepared them for life with an education. The amazing stat is the jump in Big 10 All-Academic members in starting in '02. Kinda proud to be a fan of a program where the leader is putting an emphasis on the books also.

Anyway, I can't wait for September.

I think this was already posted. Not only that, the 3-straight years of tOSU leading the Big-10 in all-academic selections has been the lead story on SportsCenter for the last week.

I'm guessing your ESPN boycott made you miss their coverage of this story.

Tell me this is sarcasm...

Awesome. I've often thought highly of coaches that got their players to graduate. I think the graduation rate was my least-favorite thing about Cooper (which says a lot). I knew Tressel was doing a better job than Cooper, but I didn't know it was this much better.

this before or after may and trev made a crack about fixed grades and tutors taking players tests?

My post was sarcasm. But congrats to those whose boycott made them not 100% sure.

BFS, my own boycott makes make not be certain, but I don't believe SportsCenter has mentioned tOSU's all-academic achievements. I was the one who first mentioned them, although in a facetious manner.

This is great progress and really good news. Gosh, I have not been so positive about Ohio State coaches since my childhood. Really good stuff.

We mustn't forget that OSU remain far below the new standards the NCAA has set for academic performance. The vast majority of the football team are hanging around in the 2.0-2.5 range.

There are some marginal players academically in all programs and easier majors than others. But, take a look at some of those supposedly lightweight courses and the course syllabi by touring the OSU website. Everyone is getting stats and some pretty tough stuff along the way. We can all be confident that OSU provides a world-class education and be proud of the progress under Coach Tressel.
