ABC will tackle prime-time college football next season.

ABC Saturday Night College Football will feature showdowns between top football programs at 8 p.m. ET.

Notre Dame kicks off the 12-week season Sept. 2 at Georgia Tech followed by Ohio State at defending national champion Texas the next week.

Commentator Brent Musburger will be the play-by-play voice with Bob Davie as the analyst. They will be joined by ESPN College GameDay and ESPN College Football Thursday prime-time analyst Kirk Herbstreit on certain weeks. Lisa Salters, an NBA sideline reporter and general assignment correspondent for multiple ESPN news outlets, will report from the sidelines.

"This prime-time series will be terrific for fans as more top-quality sports product comes to the ABC Television Network," said George Bodenheimer, president, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports. "These games join a strong lineup of sports on ABC, including the NBA Finals, NASCAR's playoffs -- Chase for the Nextel Cup -- in 2007, Belmont Stakes and Indianapolis 500."

It's the first college football series in prime time on broadcast television and will also be available in high definition. The schedule does not include games on Oct. 21 and 28.

College GameDay will kick off its 20th season by originating from the site of the first two ABC prime-time telecasts: Georgia Tech Sept. 2 and Texas Sept. 9.

"The combined resources of ABC and ESPN offer unparalleled coverage of the sporting world and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to add unprecedented coverage of college football to our prime-time schedule," said Stephen McPherson, President of ABC Entertainment. "College football has extremely devoted fans and we look forward to bringing the excitement of the game to them on Saturday nights this fall."

I can only hope that CBS follows suit and has a primetime SEC game a few of those weeks......Notre Dame v. Georgia Tech? Nebraska v. USC? UCLA v. Cal? :sleep1:
Personally, I would actually enjoy getting a Pac-10 game once in awhile, however, the odds of that occuring are slim and none. In Ohio, we are bound to get the games of whatever contenders from the Big-12, ACC, or Big East are playing that evening. I'm expecting we'll get an inordinate number of prime time WVU games this year.

I think the big shocker was pairing Bob Davie with Brent Musburger. You can totally throw away the old rules to the Brent Musburger drinking game and concoct a new one with far easier rules based simply on whenever either one of the broadcast team mispronounces the name of or misidentifies a player, team, mascot, or stadium.

You'll be hammered in 15 minutes.

Danielson = CBS now

I'm surprised at how many night games the Big Ten will have this year, especially given last year's behavior: the flag planting, texas visitor experience, and PSU assaulting OSU fans and tbdbitl.

Games in orange i'll definatly be tuning into.
And as far as the Tech ND game,,, it's gonna be a good one, Tech has a lot of speed on offense, I would ALMOST be willing to say poor mans OSU offense from last year (when they come to play) but you never know which tech you're getting. Ohio State Tex will be fun to watch, State and Iowa as well.

• Sept. 2, 8 p.m. ET: Notre Dame at Georgia Tech
• Sept. 9, 8 p.m. ET: Ohio State at Texas
• Sept. 16, 8 p.m. ET: Nebraska at USC
• Sept. 23, 8 p.m. ET: Notre Dame at Michigan State;
• Sept. 30, 8 p.m. ET: Ohio State at Iowa
• Oct. 14, 8 p.m. ET: Michigan at Penn State; Arizona State at USC
• Nov. 4, 8 p.m. ET: UCLA at California
• Nov. 18, 8 p.m. ET: California at USC
• Nov. 25, 8 p.m. ET: Notre Dame at USC

I'll go out on a limb and say Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson wraps up the Biletnikoff after torching the Notre Dame secondary for 200 yards and 3 TDs in a loss.

Of course, it'll be Notre Dame's secondary, but nobody will care because, well, he'll do it against Notre Dame.

Hell, people have already thrown five years of coaching critiques to the wind and declared Jim Tressel an offensive guru after facing that defense. I'm pretty sure even a bum like Chan Gailey has Everybody Go Deep in his offensive playbook. :wink2:

When I first heard about this the first thing I thought was "maybe now the greatest rivalry in all of sports will be shown in primetime national spotlight!"

but no :(

Can you just imagine what the atmosphere would be like in Cbus this year if we were to play UM at NIGHT in the shoe...especially if we are in the hunt for a NC.

How about no?
That is absolute blasphemy
It angers me enough that they play the game at 1 sometimes, its a damn noon game, end of story.
I really cant think of anything else nice to say right now...
