A (very early) Glance Across the Big 10 in 2012

I gave a peripheral glance at roster changes, thanks for the input. Any feel on how your defense will be with Crick, David Dennard, etc.?

I think it will depend if we have some players step up at corner and linebacker. We played without Crick for over half the season and I like Rome and Steinkuhler at DT so I think we'll be okay there but David and Dennard will be hard to replace. Hopefully the Juco corner Seisay and Juco linebacker Anderson we got help will the void. It's hard to wager on how well we will do but I'd guess that we'll be about the same on defense as we were last year.

Thanks. I want to take Nebraska in Legends but I wasn't sure about the defense. I think your offense is going to explode next year with Martinez as a junior and Burkhead as a senior. Unless tsun's defense is much better, I personally would pick you to win Legends. Sparty's D is going to be awfully tough next year though.

I wouldn't pick Nebraska to win the Legends - not without a LOT more consistency from this team. They have talent - they just don't put it together all the time.

Our defense will be OK, but not magical, unless Pelini decides to really put some time in with the players. He took a step back this year and it really showed. The defense was supposed to be the strength of the team... didn't work out that well.

I think we'll have a chance in every game. I agree that our offense could take a significant stride forward. But the defense has a LOT to sort out.

Nebraska is the same team who lost to Northwestern at home.

How does that happen?

I think Northwestern underperformed last year. Plus having Persa out for awhile really hurt them. They still had some talent though.

It's all about the Quarterbacks. Who has one. Who doesn't.
Michigan...check. Unless 'Bama breaks his leg. It could happen.
MSU....? Big question mark.
Nebraska...check. Martinez runs(literally) hot and cold.
Purdue...has several decent to good ones. Could be the sleeper team of the BIG.
Wiscy? Big question mark. But maybe it won't matter because we aren't elegible.
Buckeyes...check. Braxton Miller will star. Not elegible this year.
Ped U........ugly. No QB. No secondary. No pass rush. (See 2011 Buckeyes.)
So we got Wiscy and Purdue in one division.
Weasels and Nebraska in the other.

to describe the league you don't even need words, just use a :slappy:

Next year the league, and our schedule in general is a joke. Our schedule, and the overall weakness of it (weakest schedule in close to 30 years) is the same reason Gene Smith should be fired.

We gave up a sure-fire BCS season, but most likely a National Title berth. Our schedule next year is a joke....not our fault, it just is.

Very true. I feel whatever team limps out next year will get taken to the woodshed in the Rose (your either going to have Oregon, USC, or Stanford) or the NC game. This past season was the year the Big 10 needed to make some noise on the national scene. With only MSU winning and Bucky at least looking respectable against Oregon, that chance likely passed. The Big 10 is down big time.
