A Few Post-Game Thougthts....

Eh, I'll disagree on the call but I definitely understand JT's thinking...just dont like it.

The biggest problem with that play is that they should have run it to the left on third down. If you don't get it there you punt. Troy fell down on the sneak without any push, which caused the 4th down. IMO if you need a yard run CWells up the backs of the road graters on the left side of the line. If Tebow can get 3-4 yards on every carry we should be able to get a yard.

The field position is what made the call questionable.

Oh, no doubt it was questionable but at some point in a butt-kicking like that you have to take a chance a stopping the other teams momentum, the only problem was you take the chance of giving it right back to them.

Again, I see both arguments but felt it was the right call at the time.

just like the opening kick return had no impact on the game, the failed fourth down attempt had no impact either. the most damaging play of the game was having the ball knocked from troy's hand at the end of the first half... or teddy's injury that, according to him, occurred while celebrating in the endzone after his return.

I've tried to forget about as much of last night as I can but I believe Tress said he went for it on 4th to let his guys know he had confidence in them and wanted to get them going. The 3rd down call was awful. Not being able to get a yard on 4th down was just symbolic of the whole night.

sure it only resulted in 3 points points but it also gave the Gator Defense more confidence than they already had.

I disagree. I think the sack/fumble did that because at that point we had 2 minutes, three timeouts and plenty of time to score 7 points.

Just to chime in on the 4th & 1, I think it was the right call as well. Pittman probably should have had the ball, though.

Several have mentioned it, but I just don't understand why we continued to play zone and give up 4-8 yds. per play. We weren't getting to Leak, so pressure up front wasn't going to do the job- why not pressure the receivers a little? We just allowed them to march right down the field in front of us, 7 or 8 yards at a time.

I'll tell you, the one thing that shocked me the most was watching Tressel come undone. You could see it on his face- I've never seen him outcoached like that before. I think there came a time when he realized that he just didn't have an answer. Execution on the field was bad, obviously, but the coaching staff just got beaten, period.

Grad, Do you feel like they should have pressured Leak at the beginning of the game?

I'm not 21, but IMO when they saw that the plan wasn't working they should have changed it up and brought more pressure. Leak did a good job of throwing the ball away when he didn't have anything, but if they had brought 4-5 guys for more of the game Florida hopefully wouldn't have scored as much. The only problem with bringing more guys is that it opens you up to the big play on the screens but it seemed like we got decent pressure when we brought 4.

Leak did do a good job however, the FEW times we actually got a bit close to him, he was frazzled a bit. We definitely should have made getting to him much more of a priority... the constant rattling of his cage could have changed the tune of the game. The fact is, we didn't accomplish that and Leak was able to remain focused and methodical, play after play.

And this was the deciding factor of the game IMO. We spent most of the game bringing just three, walking up a LB only to drop him in coverage. The few times we brought four (can't recall bringing more than four, but I assume we must have once or twice right?), we forced Leak to throw the ball away. I will never understand this defensive game plan or more specifically why we never adjusted and brought some pressure...

I'll never understand the offensive gameplan either: why would Tress avoid the run? Pittman was moving the ball against these guys, and if we gave our HUGE line a chance to wear their little speedy line down a little... of course I mean initially, I understand that late in the game we had to try to score quickly. I sincerely thought that using Pitt and Beanie would have been the key to this game.

Not only did our coaching staff not have a good gameplan, but there was little if anything done to make adjustments. On offense, our WRs couldn't get open and our offensive line couldn't pass protect, so why weren't we trying to run the ball or throw screens to take advantage of their aggressiveness? On defense, I'll never understand why we didn't go man-to-man and rush more than 3 or 4 guys, when we knew all along that Leak was mistake prone if pressured. I am dumbfounded as to how our coaching staff, which is usually very good, could have such a bad game.

Completely agree... just as confused.
