A Few Post-Game Thoughts....

The flag on Holmes was utter and complete bullshit. As was the call on Everett. Homer calls if I've ever seen one.

I find it hard to complain about the holding anymore I'm so used to seeing it. Its gotten to the point where I think opposing O-lines are told to hold all day knowing it will never get called. If this game was played on the street, Pitcock could press charges for sexual assault after yesterday.

Heck, I even jumped up and said WTF when they threw the flag on Holmes.

There is no question scUM was getting some serious home cooking from the refs. Just makes the win that much sweeter.

We spot them Carpenter,
-40 some yards in punt muffs(I love saying muff)
-a missed PAT
-a missed FG
-a shanked punt
-2 turnovers (although scUM gets credit in my book for forcing them)
all this on the road mind you,
-WHILE the refs were fucking us every chance they got.

And we still won the MF'er. Do you know how much better one team has to be than the other to pull that off !!??

I did not catch this on-air, but, I was told that when asked about the Unsportsmanlike penalty on Holmes Tressel responded with how that play would inspire young kids throughout Ohio to make diving catches into beds of autumn leaves, or the like.

Does anyone have that question-answer in print?

Jaxbuck - The pic in your sig is absolutely priceless for the obvious reason of the winning TD, but also to see Burgess pancaked on the play and Crable blocked as well.

Oh and to have 2 turnovers, 2 muffed punts resulting in circa -40 yards, a missed PAT, missed FG, an 18 yard punt, and losing an AA Lb-er on the 1st defensive play of the game and still winning illustrates that the winning team is MUCH better than the competition.

This is from the paper this morning:

"They explained to me it was clear no one was going to hit him," Tressel said. "I said 'Man, you can read a lot faster than I can because people were flying through the air. How do you know who's coming to hit ya?"

I think you're referring to a play by Smith. I think it was the spin-away then pass move, to Ginn, maybe? I forget who the receiver was. He said that kids would be out replaying that spin move/pass in a pile of leaves.

I've seen that dive called a number of times this year. I think it's a pretty lousy penalty. If you're scoring a touchdown, you should be allowed to celebrate, especially if it isn't in the face of the other team. A dive into the endzone is celebrating 6 points - not trash-talking the other team.

Here's the quote:

"There will be a lot of (No.) 10 jerseys," coach Jim Tressel said. "There will be a lot of youngsters watching, and out there in the yard on Thanksgiving weekend, making that same move that (Smith) made and getting open in the pile of leaves. That’s the fun of college football at this time of the year."

A good argument can be made for Michael Robinson as well. He has played lights out this year and is the main reason why the Nits are going to the BCS.
Robinson's "prowess" at QB is very similar to Krenzel. He made tons of plays for his team, and didn't turn it over in the big moments.

However, he has had some fairly ugly performances. His WRs dropped tons of passes for him vs MSU, but he also started becoming a horrible passer. He did not win the OSU game. the defense did.
And all that LLLLYod can say after the game is the refs blew the call when Gonzo was pushed OOB. Give me a break.
are you serious? not surprising, but it's a pretty easy call to make. Gonzo ran straight up the sideline, the guy stood on the sideline in his way. Gonzo bumps half a yard out, and goes back in. Classy as always lllloyd.
Unfortunately I think that he muffed a few more over the year... unfortuantely looks like a trend.

I remember reading somewhere (maybe here) that his hands could be due to his playing so much DB in HS... don't think I agree with it, but there is a pattern to the dropseys...
sounds a lot more like someone stereotyping someone. Did you see Ginn's one handed catch? I agree the guy has some issues fielding punts, but he has a great set of hands on him. That is NOT why he was playing DB. He was playing DB b/c he was the best DB in the entire nation.

That game was awesome to say the least. Losing Carp had Me worried allot. But it just seemed that there was no way in hell that this team was going to lose yesterday. Schegel stepped up big time and Holmes and Gonzo....well wow. The leadership that Smith showed today just tells me and shows Mer how much he has grown up in this season. To see Him being one one calming tressel down and to see the true joy in his face when he came over and kissed tressel on teh cheek after the game. You can tell he is grateful for everything that he has overcome this year.

I was listening to the radio this morning and talking about how Eddie George was the honorary captin for the game yesterday. They said he was late because of a plane delay and didn't get to talk to them at the breakfest so instead he had to talk to them in the lockerroom. Before he went into the lockerroom he was jawing with michigan fans reminding them that tressel is 3-1 against Michingan. They said when he was in the locker room ho made an impassioned plea to this team to win, telling these guys that he has gained 10,000 yards in the nfl, he has won afc championships, and he has played in superbowls, but NOthing will ever mean as much as his games vs. Michigan. And for these guys to go out and take the win

If Holmes runs into the endzone, and the Michigan DB pictured above had clocked him after he crossed the goal line, would the same ref have thrown a flag for a late hit...?

Also, it it pretty obvious from the picture that that DB was too far away from Holmes to have hit him.... :shake:

Nice point LJB, just make the call that much worse, and to boot when the officials called the penalty they said it was on number 7 when the ref cleary threw the flag the second Holmes jumped into the endzone.
slightly off-topic, but I have a few questions about that:
1) do they keep track of who earns what penalty?
2) do the official stats list #7 as having a celebration penalty?

extremely unimportant, but just something I was curious about

The "play-by-play" on the Buckeyes' official web site "credited" the penanlty to Homles:

OSU35 PENALTY OSU unsportsmanlike conduct (Holmes, S) 15 yards to the OSU20.
OSU/UM Play-By-Play
