A few observations after the SDSU game

looking at what we have

Tressel needs to look at what we have, we have some of the greatest wide recievers in the nation.

Why wont we throw it deep??? It opens up the offense so much more, and keeps the defense honest.
All along I have been thinking that as well, and as a JT supporter, I agree with you sg. I hate to admit it, but why aren't we running slant patterns to our great wide-outs? I know we won and all, but I'm feeling not too excited about this win. It wasn't to satisfying that we beat this team , but didn't destroy this team. does it seem that we are holding back or what? I guess we will find out next week with Iowa.

Troy is the better QB.

What is this based on, the Michigan game? Or video games?

Because this year, this season, I don't see how people make this comment with a straight face.

Which isn't to say that Justin is the "better QB" (I've always found such generalizations sort of assinine -- don't take that personally), just that I don't even remotely see the rationale behind a statement like this.

Would you quantify it? Because from a pure passing standpoint, today was a frightening display.

Our receivers were open a number of times, and just weren't thrown the ball. But hey, the scrambling was exciting, eh? :)

I get your point here, I was kind of scared every time Troy didn't run tonight. Maybe he is still a little rusty or getting back into shape? scratch that part, I don't really mean the last part.

But I really want him to do well. I mean I'm rooting for the guy , but I am starting to lose some hope.

Oh hey, believe me; I'm rooting for him too. I want nothing more than to not worry about the QB position. Just for a change of pace, something different to spice things up.

If we flip-flop QBs again next week, I'll just go ahead and allow that the position will never be allowed to gel.

From where I sit in the stands, our offense in the last 2 games has been just downright terrible. The play calling has been miserable, Troy's decision making has been less than adaquate, our recievers have dropped too many balls, and our running backs, have missed holes the size of Texas and still can't break a tackle.

I agree with most of the statements early in the post whole-heartedly. The only pleasant surprise is our offensive line hasn't been offensive. They played well against texas and played wonderfully today. They still lack some push from time to time, but they are much improved.

I will say most of our problems on offense start in one place. That is the lap of our miserable offensive coordinator JIM BOLMAN. This guy has NO idea what he is doing. None. I have never seen more talent fail as often as our guys on offense do. Our lack of exicution doesn't help either. Troy missed many open recievers and this conserative offense has to go. We need to be dominating teams of this caliber. Not waiting for the 4th quarter to put the game on ice. If it wasn't for 2 absolute lights out performances by our defense I am afraid we would have to endure another season like last.

I do hope we bring the offense to match our defense next week because revenge should be sweet.

Go Bucks:osu:

All I know is that I'm tired of the never ending "whats wrong with the offense" conversations.

The offense has just been flat out shitty for the better part of 2 1/2 years now. I'm tired of excuses, I'm tired of wondering if its this or that I just want to see some results. A couple of games at the end of a lost season do not a trend breaker make.

I love JT but if there is still a soul alive in the Buckeye nation thats doesn't think we need some shakeups on the offenseive side of the ball I'd love to hear from them. This bullshit can't just be dissmissed as an isolated incident anymore, its a problem that needs fixing.

I stayed out of the JT/offensive coorinator thread last week to give myself some time to post my thoughts objectively but I cant argue against a real honest to god OC with actual control anymore. The problem on offense isn't talent, its a never ending circle jerk of poor design and poor execution. Different players, different years, different schemes and the same fuck all results. We're now going to work on year 3 of having an offense ranked 90th or worse in all of college football. That's completely unnaceptable for a school with our talent.

I belive wholeheartedly in winning games with a stout defense and superior special teams but its ok to be good on offense when you have the talent. You dont HAVE to be bad on offense to be a defensive oriented team. I swear to god it seems like they do it on purpose sometimes.

I usually don't get on here and rant but I'm fed the fuck up.

Even though Ginn hasn't had the big early year most of us thought he would have, he is definitely making his prescense known. How many times have we gotten the ball past the 50 yardline this year? He is simply making a difference by just being set to return the punts. With this type of field position our offense doesn't have to be perfect, but I think it will be good enough to get the job done game in and game out. I think we can go 11-1, and think as we move on our offense will become potent just like it did at the end of last year.

I'm with you all of the way......I usually make fun of the whiny people because we still win, but I was just flat out depressed watching our "O" today. Thank God that I'm a defensive man!

Also, the announcers drove me ape shit drooling over Smiths runs and acting like he was the second coming. I'm not anti-Smith, but he missed so many open receivers today. It seemed like everything was timing or to a spot (mostly downwards toward the field). I failed to notice him making many reads and he definitely didn't go through a receiver progression.

Oh well, the Defense kicked ass!

Clarity - First love your post after each game.

Seconf he is spot on especially with the Smith comments. I am pulling for whoever is the QB is but to say Troy ahs played better the Zwick in game situations is biased and not being honest. Troy tries to make it his show all the time. He has missed more open WR then I have ever witnessed. Hopefully we see improvement from him really soon.

BTW our D is sick nasty!! And I am calling it right now Malcomn Jenkins will be a STUD!! An absolyute stud on this defense

I personally think that Ginn's real talent in being wasted. Ginn should be a CB primarily and line up on the offense for specific plays and/or in the 4 receiver set and obviously return punts/kicks. Think about some of the plays he could have made already with his closing speed. For one, he would have likely been able to prevent the opening SDSU TD by running the guy down from behind. I think he would have been much more capable of defending Sweed from Texas to prevent the game winning TD. Then sprinkle him in on the offense to disrupt the opposing defense and then I think we would be getting the best out of Ginn.

Across the board, I have never seen anyone as capable of wasting talent as Bollman has done over the past few years. We should be explosive, dangerous and flat out scary for the opposing defenses. Our defense is very good, but would be even better with Ginn at one of the corners.

Who cares that SDSU scored? We held them to 170 yards of total offense, and 3 first downs. If you expect the Buckeyes to come out every Saturday and play flawless/perfect football, then you will be sorely disappointed.

Youboty is an AA candidate and the leader of our secondary, and you would put Ginn, who has never played a down of defense in his college career man to man on Texas' top wideout, the 6'5" Sweed?

Well if he's just going to be the official decoy so we can keep running those killer 3 yard outs to Hamby you just might have a point. I would have said you were fucking crazy coming into the season but the past 2 games have been such a clusterfuck offensively it may not be such a bad idea.

As far as Bollman wasting talent, there certainly has been plenty of that but its just flat out dishonest to blame it all on Bollman. He is the OC in name only and even if he weren't, the area of the team he is responsible for has sucked moose balls for a long time now so it would still be on JT for keeping someone in place that is so incompetent. Anyway you slice it JT has a major hand in our offensive shortcomings.

Maybe this offense is not going to turn it around. Pittman looked like someone looking for a place to hit the ground... are you telling me he's the best a school that produced Janowicsz, Cassidy, Roseboro, Furgeson, Griffin, Spencer, George, Wiley, Pearson can do? Who are we recruiting and why?

Sadder still, it seems to me that the entire Big 10 is in a down season. I have no idea why we let this SDSU team stay with us for a half. Illinois gets clobbered by a Cal team with four regulars out with injuries. Michigan drops the ball against a mediocre ND and Michigan State needs OT to beat them. Iowa gets blown out by a lower middle half of the Big 12 team... at this rate we're going to have to win out just to get the right to play Louisville... let alone play in a possible BCS championship game.

Don't be suprised tommorow when the pollsters put that Louisville team ahead of us. I also won't be shocked to see us looking up at a 1 loss Tenn team. This showing today impressed no one.

We won by 21 points, I dont see Lousiville jumping three spots in the BCS, and Ohio State will be the best ranked one-loss team in the country. We didnt impress anyone, but for us to be dropped because we only won by 21 points is a joke, Id be shocked if it happened.

Plus, we will move up a couple spots next week after we beat the piss out of Iowa.
