Can't believe the Blitz is gone - Columbus radio really is pretty damn bad. Its amazing that all the stations in Columbus water-down their playlists in search of more listeners and get exactly the opposite. With such a good local music scene, you'd figure radio people would know to play interesting music.

Does QFM 96 still exist? I used to like that station for classic rock. Edit: just checked online - it does. Whew.

I agree with Scooter! The Blitz was turning soft anyways.

Best station that I have jammed to in ohio is a tie

WMMS in Cleleland

WEBN in Cinci

:banger:

WMMS hardly plays any music anymore until they get rid of Bob and Tom midday. I used to listen to them when I was younger, but they got too old for my taste. Now that Rover moved over I listen to them every morning, but that's it.

The new 99.7 is a mix of some classic rock 96.3 and a few altn 90s rock they stole from 106.7 but a weaker station than both imo. The newer rock may not be great but the Blitz did play some tool APC alice inchains System of a Down etc. Theres no station in columbus for that now. You may hear a metallica song from time to time and they played war pigs the other day but for the most part all i've heard is about3 nirvana songs and bush twice(all songs that was from 106.7 format), and a bunch of 80's rock(GnR Def Llepoard, not really my thing). I'd put your chances of turning on a radio station and being able to rock the fuck out at about 6%. Unless you like pour some sugar on me you're fucked.

All I have to say is this format change was better than the last one. BKB referenced it. If you weren't here then, they used to be Classic Rock, then they just canned everybody, put Stairway to Heaven in the CD player and hit repeat.

They let it ride for about a week.

Then they ended up with a Heavy Metal format via some national metal broadcast who's name escapes me.

IMO I really don't listen to them. Not when they were metal and probably not now. I listen to most my music via iPod or internet radio (Pandora or launch)

The thing that concerns me most about the loss of the Blitz will be the loss of the "Pray for rain" bilboards.

I never could stand the Blitz. They'd play 2 or 3 good songs and then follow that up with some damned Jayne's Addiction or something else similarly stupid.

Anyway, out here we really have two options, the X (103.9) which MIGHT play a decent song every once in a while, but the morning guys are feeling the need to talk more and more in between songs and in the afternoons it's either Linkin Parks' Emo song of the week or playing every FlyLeaf song ever released - and we also have WTUE which has Bob and Tom on until about noon or so but is ok generally after that.

Damn I need an IPod

I always have my radio on 99.7 or 103.9 if I'm not listening to my mp3 player. I haven't really noticed a big format change, but know that I stopped regularly listening to The Blitz in the morning ever since they stopped playing music. I've tried listening to some of their moring shows, but just couldn't do it. I was in Columbus for the beginning of Stern, and out of town during the Greg-O era, but the Blazer and Mo morning thing was/is the worst piece of no where near entertaining garbage ever.
