#8 tOSU 72, #9 Siena 74 (Final, 2OT)

with all due respect to you ohio state fans i really do not see how well your speed matches with yours. i have watched numerous big 10 basketball games this year (as dubbed the big 10 conference...a perfect solution for a hangover) and the styles that teams like purdue and wisconsin play will not match up well with the style you all play. this is not disrespect to your team at all because i have thought they were one of the better teams in the league this year and lightys injury absolutely killed you despite the bounceback you have managed

the funny thing about big10 teams that i've noticed is that they have no trouble stepping up the pace vs up tempo OOC teams, but the uptempo OOC teams usually have a tough time slowing down to our speed.

Our speed might not match up, but I think everything else does. Our team is very solid on defense, we have some shooters (including one who pretty much doesn't miss if he's open - Diebler). We have a great defender at C in Lauderdale, and an athletic C in Mullens who is likely playing his final games in a Buckeye uniform. And then there's our star, Evan Turner, likely a top 20 pick if he comes out this year, possible lottery if he waits. Buford has been hot lately and has a beautiful shot.

I'll give you speed, I'll take our guys though. Should be a good game. Siena's defensive stats seem to play in our favor if I recall correctly.

Well, that's disappointing, given the good experiences we've had with opposing fans before. Maybe we'll get a few who are actually interested in good conversation before the week is out.
SienaHoop has started out well. Plus, he doesn't like soup either. :)

The other 2 weren't too bad at first, then their true colors came out, I suppose.

The one thing I've never needed on BP is someone else to speak for me.

I mean that in the most disgusting, nasty, repulsive way possible. Fuck them in the left nostril with a basketball.

I don't get it. You mean that wasn't the nicest possible way?

Seriously, let's ignore the troll and look for conversations with reasonable Siena fans. I guess we understand why others move away from soup on the bench at school...

hey guys, sorry i missed all of the fun. obviously youve now seen that we do have our @ssholes as well. not to mention because of Siena's success over the years we also have some haters who would even stoop to the level of posing as a Siena fan. Soup, however is not one of those imposters. He is actually a knowledgeable poster when he isnt going over the edge... its a shame. You can see more from him and others on his own board at MAAC Hoops - Login. he seems to prefer an antagonistic approach and promotes others on his board to do the same.

enough on that.

there are those of us who can be both respectful of OSU and confident in a win. The vanderbilt reference i dont really see here. Some of your posters may look towards Louisville but not out of complete disrespect for the opponent before you (Siena). Vanderbilt fans last year felt like Siena shouldnt even be on the same court as them and it permiated the entire message board prior to the game. There was a distinct lack of respect for Siena and its program. I dont see a whole lot of that here. You'll have to forgive some of our fans and their "Napolean Complex"... we are the little guy and getting a shot at a big guy and in the NCAA tournament... obviously making the tournament and getting a 9 seed does deserve some form of respect for a school of Sienas size. But make no mistake about it... we all know we are the underdog here and recruiting, conference affiliation, historical resume, location of the game, player size, insitituion size and on and on we can go are all in OSUs favor. That is not meant to patronize you or your program ... it is what it is.

so as we approach fridays game lets do so out of respect for one another and an opportunity to face a challenging opponent that poses some interesting matchup problems for each team. Lets hope that this is the first round game that everyone talks about after the weekend!

It is nice to see some solid, nos-sophmoric, conversation about the upcoming game on here. I think we (tOSU) fans are expecting this years version of the Bucks to do what other recent versions have done, and that is to raise the pace and urgency of their game when we are no longer playing the football on the hardwood that is B10 basketball.

Matta likes to play up paced games, but people who have not played it, or watched a lot of it do not understand that the other teams in the B10, and the officials, just will not allow that to happen in league games. There is too much bumping, mugging (some of the mugging is the officials for the cameras) and defensive intensity on the opponents part to allow the Bucks to play the uptempo game that Matta would like.

I think that most of we tOSU fans also hope that the team is also finally over the loss of its emotional leader in Lighty and are ready to play with the intensity we saw early in the year (with Lighty) and during the B10 tournament without him.

With these things in mind, we are not being disrespectful when we feel pretty confident that tOSU, with what we believe will be at least three members of the team soon (hopefully not too soon) donning NBA jerseys and plying their trade for big bucks, will show the nation and Siena that tOSU at least does not play a slow plodding football on wood, and are able to play with some of the best teams in the country.

I think Siena brings a talented, spirited team to Dayton and if the Bucks overlook them a bit, or play like they did early on without Lighty, and off and on in the B10, timid, or like they weren't sure they wanted to be out there, then it could very well be a short tourney for the Bucks. But since this is a site predominately for Buckeye fans and with the recent success in tournaments (B10. NIT, 2007 NCAA's) of our Bucks, we feel pretty confident that Thad and the Boys will bring their A-game.

I don't really get some of the comments I've seen suggesting Siena has more postseason experience than OSU. Sure, they got to go to the Big Dance last year and pull off a nice upset, but that was all of one game, and I don't think OSU's NIT experience counts for nothing here. OSU got a chance to play 5 tournament games against some pretty solid teams (Cal, Dayton, Mississippi, UMass) -- and getting a couple extra games in this years B10 tourney can only help too.

Siena may have a few more seniors/juniors than we do, but at this point I'm not putting too much stock in the "experience factor" -- I'm much more interested in seeing how the Saints deal with Mullens and Lauderdale down low :osu:

Glad to still have some quality outsiders around, that's what makes these games more enjoyable. One of the best parts about BP is the outsiders (methomps - USC fan - moderator here, Nutriatch - LSU, Gatorubet - Gator miscreant, Texas fans, etc) that stick around after the game for conversation, especially those that get involved outside of their niche.

I'd also like to make it crystal clear that we welcome dissenting opinions, even ones predicting outcomes we don't like. See the archived Texas threads, or some of the quality LSU & Ok St posters that surfaced in their game threads. What we do expect, however, is for you to back up your statement. If you think Siena is going to win by 15, back it up, give us reasons.
