#7 Ohio State 52, Indiana 51 (Final)

i have to say, that with every game, this team reminds me more and more of the 2002 football team. it's often ugly, and difficult to watch, and very often there are heart attacks involved, but they somehow keep finding a way to win... i love this team. i'm almost convinced that they will win the National Championship.

Good comparison. It's pretty impressive that we shot like shit ON THE ROAD against a talented team on a roll AND STILL WON!

Foster is getting on my nerves.

Right down to (but not including) the last shot I was yelling to get the ball tio Foster. Without him in sync our NCAA run is pretty brief.

Of course, we have all been saying for some time that we will lose to a good team if Dials gets in fowl trouble and we miss our 3's. What do we know.

Wow, great football game out there today, holy crap, that was a lot of banging. I really like this team's chances to make a big run, because today we proved we can win the big, physical game, and we have enough guys that can shoot the lights out most nights that we can win the non-contact Duke pansyball too. One advantage we'll have that few other teams will is that it doesn't matter what style of refs we'll get, we can play the game...period. Very few other teams can say that.

I see us at least in the Elite 8.

How about the in-bounds plays Matta had drew up for today. They worked every time. I dont know if he was saving them for the end of the year, but there was a open guy under the bucket almost every time.

The play he drew up for the go ahead bucket was also a dandy. I dont know how people can criticize his X and Os, because when he wants to he can draw up one hell of a play.

Excellent point by Bucklion regarding the ability to adapt to the style of play-both officiating and tempo. This is important in a tournament situation where preparation time for your next opponent is at a minimum. I think it's a real credit to Matta and his staff that we are ready for this. Heating up from 3 point land would make this a lot easier (at least on my heart).

We won't get out of the first round of the NCAAs if we play like we're playing today...we have absolutely no offense.

I disagree. Although the Bucks were ice cold, Indiana is FAR better than anyone that will draw a 15 seed. In order for the Bucks to lose in the first round, the lack of 3's would need to continue, Sullinger would need to break his leg, and Dials will need to wear an opponent's jersey.

Won't happen.

Now, round 2 on the other hand... I'd agree with you.

Alrighty, so the shooting continues to suck. Few too many turnovers.

Now on to the good stuff.

Doesnt it seem like we have 1 particular person really step up every time this happens? Lewis, Harris, Sullinger......... Today it was JJ. Wow. Offensive end, he saved our asses. Defensive end, came up with some HUGE rebounds, not even counting the last one.

Syl........what a friggin incredible game he played. Offensive end not so much, cept for another huge game winning shot :p But what a game on defense by him. Did a FANTASTIC job at relieving Dials, and even when he wasnt. Got beat a couple times, but I sure cant blame him on those. Was mis-matched.

And lets not forget Dials. What a BEAST. Killingsworth had to work his ASS off for everything he got today, and got away with a bunch of fouls. Several huge shots down the stretch once again as well.

Can look at the bad things all we want, but they won another damn game somehow, and are one step closer to the conference tourney championship, and a possible 1 seed. Alot of other teams cant say that.

bullshit. IU didn't deserve to win it either. actually, i don't think either team deserved to lose... both teams played like hell the entire game.

When we go down on four or five straight posessions in the second half and throw up threes without even attempting to set up a play, then we don't deserve shit. At least Indiana almost without fail would bring the ball down and set up a play...that's why they had three or four wide open in-close put-ups and a couple of clean driving lanes. I don't recall a single instance in the second half where IU went down and threw up a shot within three second of crossing the midcourt line. And we are lucky as hell that Wilmont missed that 3-footer at the buzzer. We can't expect to go far when when we shoot 18.5% from 3-pt range.

Sullinger's double-double powers OSU into Big Ten final

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- J.J. Sullinger had 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Matt Sylvester made a layup with 37.4 seconds left to lead No. 7 Ohio State to its first Big Ten tournament championship game since 2003 with a 52-51 victory over Indiana.

Ohio State (25-4), the regular-season conference champion, has won seven straight and now faces No. 20 Iowa on Sunday. The top two seeds will meet for only the second time ever in the title game after Iowa defeated Michigan State 53-48.

Roderick Wilmont led Indiana (18-11) with 16 points but he missed a short jumper at the buzzer that would have won it. The loss ended Indiana's five-game winning streak. Marco Killingsworth had 10 points and 10 rebounds but also missed a short hook shot with about 5 seconds left that would have given the Hoosiers the lead.

As usual, it was a physical matchup.

Sullinger left the game in the second half with a cut above his left eye, but returned later and finished the game by grabbing the rebound to seal it.

The Hoosiers lost swingman Robert Vaden with 3:06 left to go after he hurt his left leg, and Wilmont was down on the floor holding his head after the buzzer sounded. Vaden was helped to the locker room by two teammates.

It was that kind of game.

Indiana took a 26-25 lead into the second half before Sullinger got started. He opened the second half by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers, then completed a three-point play that gave Ohio State a 34-28 lead with 16:00 left.

The Buckeyes extended their lead to as much as 47-38 with 8:34 to go, but the Hoosiers rallied. They scored nine straight points, holding Ohio State scoreless for nearly 9 minutes, as they tied the score at 47 on Earl Calloway's three-point play with 3:47 left.

The Hoosiers reclaimed the lead when Wilmont drove the baseline for a layup with 1:50 left, but neither team could make anything until Sylvester broke free down low and put in a layup with 37.4 seconds left.

Indiana went back to Killingsworth, but his short hook bounced off the rim. Wilmont grabbed the rebound, pivoted and missed the 7-footer.

We did not deserve to win this game.

I would have to disagree with that. They played hard, open looks from three didn't drop, kept the game close. Dials may have played his most physical game in his OSU career. What can you say about JJ, he simply played the best game in his career.

To say we didn't deserve to win, is just a little to harsh in my opinion, they battled Indiana for 40 minutes against a hostile crowd, a team with nothing to lose. They may not have played smart in stretches but they played hard and tough.

We keep saying if the 3-point shooting woes continue we will lose, but heck we have won the last 4-5 games this way. With defense and timely buckets.

This is a tournament, its sometimes not pretty, but the goal is to keep winning and move on....mission accomplished. Bring on Iowa.
