6-year-old boy admits hoax about hot-air balloon non-ride

Balloon Boy Sentenced to 30 Days of Jail - Balloon boy hoax - Gizmodo
The grand total cost of pulling off a national hoax is whatever balloon-making supplies go for, $42,000 in fines, and 30 days of jail time. Richard "Balloon Dad" Heene probably considers that a bargain in the world of attention-whoring.
After Heene's wife confessed to her part in his grand hoax, we knew that punishment would come. Sadly it's in the form of a mere 20 days of jail for Mayumi Heene and 30 days for Richard Heene. Mr. Heene will also be serving an additional 60 days in a work release program and four years of probation during which he is forbidden from "profiting from the Balloon Boy hoax."

He should have received 30 days in a balloon

UPDATED: Balloon Boy family has moved to Florida | coloradoan.com | The Coloradoan

Balloon Boy dad Richard Heene?s probation was transferred from Larimer County to Florida at his request, Paul Cooper, Larimer County?s chief probation officer, said today.

Cooper said such transfers are commonly made, and Florida accepted Richard Heene for probation early last month. He said the probation for Mayumi Heene likely would not need to be transferred because she is on unsupervised probation.

He said the couple have been making payments toward their court-ordered restitution. The family arrived in Bradenton, Fla. yesterday, Cooper said. Their move was first reported by KMGH Channel 7.

Balloon boy and family moved to Bradenton, FL.

They're a much better fit for FL, since crazy happens there and all.

:slappy:

these guys moved to my area.... and yes all the bat [censored] crazy [censored]ers eventually end up in my area. They are about 10 minutes from my house, right across the Manatee River in a pretty nice housing development. Anyway, so we get word in the Newsroom they moved here because the Dad has to register his new address with the Sheriffs Dept and since this kind of trash gets air time in todays "news" we sent a photog out to get video of the house and the neighborhood so we can run a story saying "hey look, balloon boy is now your neighbor". About 12:15 I get a text from the photog we sent that says "snuk into neighborhood, balloon boy not home". It's a gated community so she just followed someone through the gates. Shortly after that I get one that just says "holy [censored]! balloon boys gandpa just chased me with a shovel". Now this photog is female, 4ft 10in tall and not very intimidating yet this guy chased her into her vehicle with a shovel... they will fit in very well around here.

Colorado is glad to be rid of these fools . . . and to send them back to what is surely a more natural habitat for them.

Balloon boy's parents speak out a decade after the stunt that transfixed the nation to claim it was NOT a hoax and they believed their six-year-old son was trapped inside runaway helium 'flying saucer'
  • Falcon Heene, now 16, was six when he was roped into the hoax by his parents
  • They claimed he was inside a helium balloon that took off from their back yard
  • It captivated millions who watched live footage of the 'flying saucer' floating above Colorado
  • After 90 minutes, it landed and rescue teams found it was empty
  • Falcon, it later emerged, had been hiding in the attic of the family's home all along
  • His parents were charged with wasting police time and they pleaded guilty
  • Now, they are speaking out to maintain that they thought he was in the balloon
  • They said they confessed to avoid jail time and deportation for Japanese mom
  • Falcon is now in a rock-band with his older brothers and says he does not think about the incident
  • His father Richard is bitter about what he calls 'unfair' treatment from the media
The six-year-old who became known as 'balloon boy' after being roped into an elaborate hoax by his parents, who told the world he'd floated away in a helium flying saucer in 2009 when he had in fact been hiding in their attic, is speaking out along with his family 10 years later to insist they did not lie.

Falcon Heene, now 16, was interviewed by Good Morning America along with his parents, Richard and Mayumi, to commemorate the ten year anniversary of the bizarre stunt.
