#4 Ohio State 78, Purdue 60 (Final)

it was nice to see the bucks take control of the defensive boards in the second half. they cut in half purdue's offensive boards from 8 to 4, which is exceptional considering how poor the boilermaker's shot percentage was in the second half.

Yeah...

It helps that Ohio State was able to hit something greater than 40% of their 3s tonight.

If they could do that on a consistent basis and not force up bad 3s, this team will be close to unstoppable.

I think the key to hitting those threes was driving to the basket and creating open looks. Don't get me wrong, they shoot the three well and I do not want to see them stop shooting it. I think they have been taking the three to quick, and settling for it to much.

which was a result of not forcing the shot. there was a nice mix of penetration, post shots, and kicks/rotations for threes. purdue is extremely vulnerable off the dribble. a team that has four potent penetrators should handle purdue with relative ease.

Which is why Conley was the best player in the game tonight....

Honestly, I've never heard an arena bitch and whine that much before when they were on the right side of most of the close calls.

Totally disagree.

When you're defending your home floor against the #4 team in the nation, and undefeated there for the year, your fans are going to hoot and hollar about every call that doesn't go their way.

Did you watch the game? They booed on every call. And most calls went their way. They were losing credibility with every bitch and moan I heard because they were whining about nothing. It was bad enough it made a strong impression on me, and I believe I've seen plenty of Ohio State roads over the years.... this was the whiniest crowd I've ever seen.

You know what I am starting to see with this team is that while we have our moments where we seem to get complacent we are learning how to end those moments faster...Purdue would make a run, just like you expect a good team to do at home and we would stop the run and push the lead back out...

This was a very good win for us...It looked like a huge trap game on the road against a good team in between two games against MSU.

Butler stepped up attacked the hole and is finally taking enough shots to get his confidence up, Harris hit some big shots, Lewis looks to be coming back to form as he attacked the hoop more so than what he has been, Twig gave great minutes with Oden on the bench with foul trouble.

Conley is no longer a frosh in my book. Yes he still has some ugly moments where he will become complacent and just try and let other guys run the offense, but when he gets the team in his hands and creates we are deadly, especially if we are hitting the outside shot. Once his outside jumper improves, he will be the best PG in the country and I think that he will achieve that feat next year, but he is primed to step up and lead this team very far in the tourney...

Cook needs the nickname the microwave b/c he comes in and just heats up...He is instant offense and him and Hunter really got us started in the beginning along with Conley...

Lighty seems to be playing better now since he is getting more minutes. He had 2 big shots where Purdue was making a run and he attacked the rim and scored, he also had that pass to Hunter which was sweet.

You could tell that Oden was playing with a heavy heart, but even when he doesnt have his best offensive nite and gets into foul trouble he effects the game so much on the defensive end. That block was sweet...

That just leaves Hunter and boy has this kid improved...He is playing great ball and while he is not in Oden's league he really impacts the game defensively as well and he has a pretty good skill set on offense...

40 agree, except that you cant nickname cook the microwave, harris already owns that...

other thoughts cook had 10 boards in 26 mins with only two fouls. nice numbers for him (shot five of ten from the floor also)

lighty, things are starting to click, but i still think in four years this kid will be a different player. mark my words now, i really do. he will be a difference maker, maybe not a star or the man, but will be that third guy who is a veteran and can put a team over the top (jason singleton comes to mind quickly)

hunter, continues to improve. played well stealing minutes while oden was out. night in and night out he seems to get better, the progress has slowed, but shows me something new every night it seems.

conley, the kid plays beyond his years, though he showed some freshman tonite. 4 tos need to be cut back and the issue i have is i believe 3 of those went for transition buckets. had a heck of the game shooting the ball and scoring. as always he played very solid ball. brent hit it on the head saying that he is likely the all b10 pg.

oden, early foul trouble. looked kind of out of it and lax in his approach. im sure his friends death was a factor, but more so is probably being in a car to terre haute, then to w. laf. he missed the shoot around and to me it showed. granted he didnt play the awful game so may think, he had 4 tos, but at the sametime didnt get many calls his way (a traveling that should have been a foul comes right to mind) but he has to play through that at his level.

butler played well nice night shooting some big shots at timely points. ive come to expect nothing less from him...

harris didnt shoot the ball all that well, tended to fade off. played a decent defensive game, but hit both his shots at timely manners.

twig, played more mins than he has in awhile, stole some minutes and kept his team in the game. you can ask nothing else of a guy in his role if you ask me.

lewis, had a nice night, though i still do not approve of his shot selection. his mins i believe were only 20 or so. down from the normal time.

also greenies to the first to asnwer this....who leads the team in tos?

Oden or Harris would be my guess and with a gun to my head I would guess Oden...

As for Harris and the microwave, he can't be called that b/c he is the starter... :)

I also agree about Lighty, at this point he is just not option 1,2,3,4 he is about the 6th or 7th option, but by the time he is gone he will be up there around option 1 or 2. He reminds me a lot of the guys that Duke has had that have stayed all four years. Guys like Battier come to mind...
