Wow, this thread certainly went sideways, complete with an insult from Millani, huh...
Ok, now first off, do I think it's funny that 4 people died and thier familys will suffer? No, I don't, I think that part is really sad, however, it's gotten to a point where there's people proposing a high speed channel on cable because people want to watch these chases, and people have said after the chase they only did it to be on tv.
So, something needs to be done to stop it, there's now a LAW here in cali that during CERTAIN TIMES, you can't broadcast these chases. Nothing pisses me off more than watching the simpsons and suddenly a "breaking news" report comes on that's some dude in a stolen miata flying down the 405 almost killing people who are just doing thier commute, or worse in some cases.
There needs to be some responsibility in the media, there's a billion problems with our media right now and that's one of them.
What I find funny is two media outlets were in such a rush to get "the scoop" that they weren't paying enough attention and ran into each other. That to me is amusing.
And for all the crap the media pulls, landing in New Orleans to do a report and flying away, without helping anyone, doing "Special Reports" where they point out how bad a situation is but never really do anything to help it.
I see it as karma, how many people die in these chases a year? How responsible is it for the media to broadcast it? How responsible is it for the consumer to watch it and want more? Do we really live in a society where our idea of entertainment is that someone might really die in a chase? Or that people want to be noticed so bad they are willing to risk years in jail, and other peoples lives, just to have thier 15 minutes of fame?
