Observations from an assistant coach familiar with Marquette:

1. 1. “It’s not going to be as easy for Syracuse’s zone defense as it was against Indiana. Marquette knows how to attack the zone and how to make Syracuse’s players work in the zone. Syracuse is going to have to be ready to play that defense for 20-30 seconds per possession.’’
   2. “Syracuse can’t let Marquette get second-chance points. Those second-chance points do two things. They help Marquette’s offensive efficiency numbers and they put the Syracuse defenders in position to commit a foul.’’
   3. “When Syracuse lost to Marquette (in the regular season), they settled for too many threes. Marquette’s tough defense forces you to be a perimeter team, but Syracuse needs to attack the way it did against Indiana. Those big guards have to play aggressively.’’

lol, well played.

I think the physical toll is beginning to kick in on teams remaining in the tournament. I would expect we see some lower scores this round of 8. The teams will get some much needed rest after the constant play and the time zone changes, and we can likely expect more normal looking scores in the Final Four.

I still laugh that Buzz Williams was kind of giving it to the NCAA last weekend about having to ship out right after the game and not being able to spend the night in the host city (with an NCAA person sitting in the room with a microphone to dispute his claim).
