to be truly fair, duke hadn't played a game in 6 days before coming to columbus. the entire fatigue argument is a copout.

Not an excuse.
Just stating facts (as you also just did).

It doesn't matter if Duke was or wasn't tired. We smoked them. We probably wouldn't beat them that badly if we played them again, but we'd still beat them. I'd love to see how we'd do in a hostile environment like Cameron. Can't wait to see how we perform in Phog Allen. What a fun season!

Say what you like about Coach K, but he has been nothing but complimentary about Ohio State this year and he took the loss like a man.

Whenever I see his success, I think about that great Ohio State coach just one level removed and what might have happened if he had been properly valued by Ohio State.

I remember that moment of the game. (I was at the game and had pretty much the same view as the photographer.) Coach Matta was trying to call a timeout and was yelling and screaming at Valentine to try to get him to acknowledge it. Valentine was off in his own world and never even heard Coach Matta. Coach Matta was livid. Another ref finally saw Coach Matta and gave him the TO.

Valentine is a real piece of work.

There was a situation last night in the Sparty game where Izzo was incensed about an over-and-back call on a long in-bounds play, and as Izzo starts screaming at two officials having a huddle Valentine sprints down the sideline and does that exact same cross-armed pose with his back to Izzo, trying to shield Izzo and prevent having to give the technical in a close game. It was hilarious.

Found it:

Saw that last night and Izzo was a little bit miffed at Valentine to say the least. The other two referees were discussing the call and finally got it right but Tom was not a happy camper. TV did not say a word but just went and stood in front of Izzo .

Wow. I've never seen a ref back into a coach like that. Funny.

Meh. I don't think it's the referees' job to control the coaches. Call the technical foul if you think it's warranted, close game or not.

But I enjoy seeing Izzo getting miffed.

ESPN link - no need to visit, here's the important part:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...01821/a-look-back-november-college-basketball

A look back at a November to remember

Most impressive win: Ohio State 85, Duke 63. Tuesday night's Buckeye-fest was a beatdown from start to finish, which is the sort of thing you expect a Buckeyes team hunting a national title to do to pretty much anyone. But Duke has been among the more impressive teams in the nation to begin the season. The Blue Devils certainly have one of the toughest schedules and have emerged from it with the nation's best early collection of wins. But Duke was thoroughly outmatched Tuesday, and OSU's dominance sent a loud message across the college hoops landscape: Thad Matta's team is every bit the serious national title contender we all expected. Relative to expectations, somehow they might even be better.

Can we sticky this thread so I can look at the title every day? It just makes me so happy.

I have placed the team rankings and the final score in the title, so it looks even better. Feel free to bump it whenever you wish throughout the season.

Why is Jim Rome working in a diner? Granted, that may be what he's best suited for.
In France, they have a delightful service in that public restrooms (which are plentiful) will have an attendant who is responsible for keeping the restrooms clean and well-supplied.

That's the job that would be best for Jim Rome.
