2nd Round: Blackhawks vs Canucks

This series will be brutally simple. If Luongo is on, the Canucks have a shot.

If he plays like his usual over-rated self, the Canucks have no prayer of hanging with the Blackhawks firepower.

This will be the series to watch if you like to see the gloves dropped. A lot of bad, bad blood between these two teams has built up over the last two years.

And oddly enough this hasn't happened (yet)....

Chicago is playing with very little fire.

Nice win for the Blackhawks last night. Luongo gave up a few rebounds that were just begging to be stuffed into the net. Hossa had a good effort along the boards before going to the net and getting a rebound, and Byfuglein had a hat trick by whacking at pucks left right in front of Luongo.

Luongo needs to stand on his head for the Canucks to have a chance in this series.

Instead, he's letting in softies left and right.

That guy is the most over-rated goalie in the league. And that's saying a LOT....

Man, Chicago can light the lamp.

Every time I watch them it seems they are putting 5 on the board.

Canucks are imploding right now. 5-2 and more PPs on the way. Toews with the hat trick.

Yeah after my post the Canuckleheads went into full meltdown mode and Chicago pretty much put this one out of reach.

There is no doubting Chicago's offense. The doubts about Chicago are mostly on their goalie and every once in a while about their overly-aggressive pylon-like defensemen. However, Vancouver really doesn't have the players to exploit Chicago, so they have to hope that Luongo can hold the fort a bit.

But I think so far this series has shown us that Luongo just isn't good enough to do it.

They showed a graphic that said the last time two teammates had hat tricks in back-to-back playoff games was in 2000.

That seems difficult to believe.

well, not really if you think about it....

first off, hatties are very rare to begin with. This year the Wings have had 2 and those were the first 2 since 2008 and the hattie Franzen had their was the first in nearly a decade for the Wings.

Secondly, that timeframe encompasses the early 2000s 'zone-trap' game when 1-0 type games were more common than 5-4 type games. The rule changes and the amount of penalties getting called this year especially is a boon. This is the most significant contributor to it if you ask me.

And lastly, the quality of the goaltenders in the early 2000s was higher than it is now.

Plus there were no playoffs 1 year. :tongue2:

I'm surprised that Malkin and Crosby haven't done it, as well as no pair of Red Wings over the last few years. Or Sakic and Forsberg in the early 2000s.

But it is good to see all the scoring since they minimized the effect of the NZ trap with the help of taking the red line out of the 2-line pass.

Floppa was never the goal-scorer Sakic was though....
