Damn, that's big. Would be nice to start keeping the top prospects in-state. Diebler showing his recruiting chops early on.

Yes it would; Ohio State did get 3 of the last four Mr. Basketballs; i.e. Malaki Branham, Devin Royal, and Colin White.
Unfortunately Ohio hasn't had any "really big immediate impact players" lately. There hasn't been anybody close to Clark Kellogg, Jimmy Jackson, or Lebron James for over 20 years.

I was going to respond with "What about Mike Redd" then I remembered that he graduated before me (we went to school together), and I graduated more than 20 years ago. Thanks for reminding me that I'm older than I think I am.

Michael Redd was a "diamond in the ruff"; in high school he wasn't regarded as the next Clark Kellogg, etc. Believe it or not, he was regarded as only the 3rd best prospect in Columbus Ohio. Kenny Gregory and Estaban Weaver were rated higher. Kenny Gregory was Mr. Basketball in Ohio and went to Kansas. He never made it to the NBA; but did play professionally in Europe for several years. Estaban Weaver had all the talent in the world and was highly regarded see articles/video below. However, he had one major problem with getting a college scholarship, he failed to graduate from high school. He bounced around in some junior colleges playing basketball but that was about it.

Estaban Weaver: From phenom to bust to hoops hall of famer

A documentary film following the life and times of former #1 overall national basketball prospect Estaban Weaver.

Jared Sullinger was an awesome college player. I would say he was really big immediate impact. But yeah not many stone cold killers (as freshmen) lately.
