24 Hours in Cincinnati / The grand tour of Ohio!

Hi Guys,

I'm making my first trip from the UK to Ohio in November, and whilst I'm coming mainly for the Buckeyes I'm going to take in as much of the state and surrounding area as I can along the way. Columbus, Cleveland, Louisville and Indianapolis are looking pretty good so far, but I can't work out what Cincinnati has to offer.

Other than a (slightly controversial) zoo and a baseball stadium that won't have any baseball happening in it, it appears from my research that there's sod all to do there! This can't be the case! ... what do the Ohio natives suggest?

I'm seeing the Bengals game on the 20th (Following a long and early drive down from East Lansing after we've dished out a wellying to MSU the day before!) and then have all day Monday to kill before heading down to Louisville on the Tuesday.

There is no 'controversy' to the zoo. Idiots on the internet have made it a meme. It's still one of the best zoos and botanical gardens in the world and worth a day to visit.

take a visit to findlay market or visit some of the better eateries in OTR for lunch.

And the Reds hall of fame and museum at the baseball stadium is regarded as one of the best professional sports teams exhibits of its kind in the country.

Cincinnati is more regional than a Columbus or Cleveland. You're going to have to look at Northern KY and SE Indiana to get the whole picture. I wouldn't say there isn't 'sod' to do here. Though you'll get plenty of responses from others who hate my city and will tell you otherwise.

If I had to eat haggis when I was in Scotland, and I did eat it. Should you venture to Cincy, you must have Skyline.

I rather enjoyed Haggis, at least the Haggis I had. I also enjoy Skyline. Take that for what it's worth.

I love Cincy. I loved living there for what was all too brief of a time.

Cheers for the advice guys (Sorry my response has taken a while!)

It looks like there is a Christmas lights event on at the Zoo whilst i'm there so might have the afternoon/evening there and check out the town in the morning.

Is the reds museum good for non-reds fans? I like baseball and have been to a few games on various holidays but must confess I know abolsoutly nothing about the Reds!

I'm half scottish and have never even seen a haggis before so that's pretty hardcore for a tourist, but I'll take the challenge! Where's the best place to try out the Skyline Chilli?

It is a history of profesional baseball's oldest franchise with some very neat artifacts and memorabilia. My personal favorite piece is the autographed final out ball form the 1919 World Series (the Black Sox scandal). If you like baseball and history and looking at old things that date to just a few years after the Civil War I think you would enjoy it.
My favorite Sklyine to eat is the one on Ludlow in Clifton. Just off campus from the University of Cincinnati.

Cheers guys! So far, in no particular order, the current itinerary looks a bit like this;

Rock and Roll Hall of fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Ohio State Reformatory, Cinci Zoo, Reds Hall of Fame, Various distillery tours from Louisville, the slugger museum and maybe the airforce museum!

Weather permitting I might do some of the amish country and one of the national parks too but I gather in november dry days are at a premium!

Also, after years of listening to the Loper and Randi show I feel the need to let adverstising win so a trip to Myers Jewlers, Pams Popcorn and the bloody float tank he's always talking about are on the cards too!

Games I've got tickets for are;

OSU @ Spartans
OSU V TTUN
B1G Championship game (If I'm still in the mood after the other two games!!)
Colts V Steelers
Bengals V Bills
Browns V Giants

Also taking in Cavs v Clippers and Blue Jackets V Rangers!

Seems a pretty comprehensive tour of Ohio and the surrounding area...I'm basing it on trip advisor and stuf I've heard on The Blitz though, so any more suggestions welcome!
