'23 MD CG Jahnathan Lamothe (Maryland Verbal)

Hi All,

I wanted to share our most recent player evaluation on one of OSU’s newest recruits, Jahnathan Lamothe, a 6’4” combo-guard from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, MD (class of 2023). The evaluation is free and very extensive. It also comes equipped with 50+ film clips to support the observations made.

Lamothe was recently offered by the Buckeyes, with new Assistant Coach Tony Skinn so spearheading the recruiting efforts. I thought the OSU hoops community would be interested in what Lamothe could potentially bring to the program.

Please copy and paste the link below (link is secure) to view Lamothe’s evaluation:

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Unofficial visit June 29 to Ohio State

Ohio State (June 29)-“With Coach Tony [Skinn] going from Seton Hall to Ohio State, we’ve had a relationship since he offered me at Seton Hall. So I feel like he’s just keeping me with him and going to introduce me to the rest of the coaching staff and stuff. He was the one that was mainly recruiting me at Seton Hall, so we have an established relationship already.”

Has anyone outside of pointguardeyes confirmed an offer for this player? I don't find anything confirming one or stating when - though the June 29th unofficial visit is promising.

Holt has a lot of offers in this class to 2Gs and combo guards. Weird given Branham, Gayle, and Hardman are all projected as 2Gs as well. Does this indicate Branham might be talking about being a two and done?

I do think Branham pictures himself as two and done. Gayle, as well, meaning he would only be here the first year of the 2023 class. Could see Meechie gone after his junior year, too.

Who know how exactly everything will shake out but I wouldn't be surprised if we end up taking a few 2023 guards.

I have looked around and cannot find anything official for Ohio State except for the unofficial visit and June 29 and his past relationship with Skinn so it is possible he does not have a "Verbal Offer" but I cannot envision him making a visit without an offer. I guess we shall see come June 29. Thanks for noticing that.

I had some trouble confirming the offer. It's tough nowadays with "sources" coming from social media.

Rated as a high four-star prospect, Lamothe current ranks as the No. 5 CG and the No. 36 overall player in the 2023 class according to 247Sports’ own rankings. Lamothe is a bit further along in his process than the aforementioned Washington, holding nearly 20 offers from the likes of schools like Creighton, Georgetown, Maryland, Penn State, Seton Hall and now Ohio State. The Buckeyes are still looking for their first commit in the 2023 class, and I'm sure Holtmann wouldn’t hate to add the 6-foot-4 Baltimore native down the line.

Doubt his offer is valid anymore! I would expect that all Shooting guard recruits are now without committable offers with GWIII on board. The Ohio PG's in Cupps and Rice might still be committable, would be interesting to find that info out. Anyone know?

Ohio State: “Our relationship is going good, I'm real close with Tony Skinn, the assistant coach. I also got to meet Coach Holtmann on my visit and they really like me and what I bring to the table so I really like them. Coach Skinn also came to watch me play live and It meant a lot. There's so many players so for him to be in the front row at my game was a great feeling.”

LSU: “Our relationship is going well. I talk to coach Wade almost every week and he's been texting me and calling me. I've also been talking to Brandon (Murray) a lot since he's from where i'm from so just talking to them watching so it's been good too."

Maryland: “I've been talking with coach Manning a lot so our relationship is still getting better but I like maryland. With coach Turgeon stepping it down it doesn't really change anything with us because coach Manning has been recruiting me. I think he will fit the role nicely because I saw what he has done in the past, where he had a good record so I think he can do this job."

With no set date for Lamothe to narrow down his options, he knows the key factors in his future decisions.
