Fifa will announce record $15bn (£11.2bn) revenues from this summer’s World Cup, significantly exceeding the targets set before the tournament.Fifa’s member associations were informed of the boost in income by Gianni Infantino on Saturday. Originally the governing body had projected $11bn in earnings. Sources have indicated that hospitality and ticketing, especially through the steeply priced secondary market, account for a significant amount of the increase. Fifa takes 15% from the buyer and another 15% from the seller on the secondary market.
Such a bonanza may also increase the chances of the US hosting another edition in the near future. The next World Cup available for bids is the 2038 tournament. At a reception on Friday, Trump confirmed his country’s eagerness for a repeat performance. “You should choose the United States of America again,” he said. “This time we will leave Canada and Mexico out.” The US has also held talks with Fifa about hosting the Club World Cup in 2029.

In the end, currency is nearly always the most powerful factor in sports, and it is here, too -- for good and evil. The incredible amount of dollars generated by this tournament will help FIFA spread soccer's gospel to parts of the world that need it. It will also almost certainly ensure that the commercialization of the game, whether through those commercials or halftime shows or an overstuffed, 64-team field, continues unabated.
In the end, all we know for sure is this: However you feel about this particular party and all that went into it -- whether you found it gorgeous or garish, astonishing or absurd, cinematic or corrupt -- it is impossible to imagine a scenario in which FIFA and the United States don't partner up to throw another one soon, possibly as soon as 2038. It is, for better and worse, inevitable.

U.S. President Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants the United States to host another FIFA World Cup as soon as possible.The sun has set on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The USA took the biggest load of the three nations, hosting 78 matches in what was an incredibly successful event. As a result, President Trump wants the tournament back on American soil.

The 2034 edition will be hosted in Saudi Arabia, 12 years after Qatar was the last Asian country to host the tournament.

Whether intentional or not, FIFA has essentially put itself in a situation where the USA is the only realistic country to act as hosts for the 2038 World Cup.FIFA’s rules on rotating the World Cup hosts between continents for each edition are being tested in a major way.
A member association from a confederation that hosted either of the previous two World Cups is generally prohibited from bidding for the next one.
The 2030 edition will be hosted on three continents (Europe, South America, Africa), and 2034 is going to Saudi Arabia (Asia). This rules out four of the six continental confederations from hosting the 2038 WC.
With CONCACAF and Oceania the only eligible continents left for 2038, it’s almost a certainty that the USA’s bid for what might be a 64-team World Cup by then will be the winning one.

Gianni Infantino sought to defend a handful of controversies from the 2026 World Cup.FIFA president Gianni Infantino has accused critics of some of the 2026 World Cup’s controversies of “spreading hate” in a shocking social media rant.
Infantino faced questions over his personal conduct during the tournament, particularly relating to his relationship with United States President Trump and the circumstances surrounding the suspension of a ban for USMNT striker Folarin Balogun.
The finances involved with the tournament, the introduction of hydration breaks and travel difficulties for players and fans of certain nationalities also marred what turned out to be a record-breaking World Cup for FIFA.
In an attempt to defend those issues, Infantino released a 15-page Instagram statement to just shy of six million followers, with the post also shared to FIFA’s eight million followers, urging those highlighting the controversies of the tournament to “meditate and pray” and focus on all the positives.
VISA Issues Facing Iran
One of the biggest pre-tournament concerns revolved around the conflict between the United States and Iran, which initially created questions over whether Iran would even be permitted to attend the tournament this summer. President Trump had urged Iran to avoid the World Cup “for their own safety.”Iran was ultimately permitted to attend but was met with strict regulations banning them from residing in the United States throughout the tournament. The players were only granted access the day before matches and were forced to leave shortly after the final whistle. Infantino was publicly questioned for his failure to provide better conditions for the team.
“Every city was packed with fans from all around the globe,” Infantino explained. “While they celebrated, you were busy planting seeds of hate. Our world needs love, not hate; tolerance, not division; celebration, not mourning.
“While you spread hatred, we worked tirelessly to unite two countries at war. Iran entered the United States without incident or conflict. When the Iranian team began playing, all the chants against them turned into a single song. The fans became the country, they became the team, and they stood behind Team Melli. This is the power of football. The Iranian team received visas to enter because football is about peace. It’s not about politics. Football is about unity, not division. Football is bigger than hate and discrimination.
“Countries facing serious health issues or other challenges were granted visas. Their teams competing and fans cheering filled millions of people back home with hope and, if only for a moment worth eternity, with joy and pride.
“You mentioned the few people denied visas and overlooked the millions who were approved, from all parts of the world. Because football unites the world, and it was demonstrated impressively this summer.
“Or when football brought Haiti to the world, a country that many cannot or choose not to visit, it might be time to set aside your pens and keyboards and show some respect to the teams that played with their hearts, that competed hard, the countries that contributed, the fans who traveled, and the children from everywhere who want to dream big. Maybe it’s time to show some love.”
