2026 tOSU Offense Discussion

That's not how football coaches work and typically not how they are wired. It's easy to say that on a message board, but the reality is football coaches don't like change and will try to work with what they got in the moment. They' will likely see the lack of execution, and regardless of philosophy, there has been a LOT of execution failures, and try to fix that in-season. think about it - the read option game that Urban ran was dated and being stopped far more regularly in 2017, but he kept running it stubbornly without much variance. They are creatures of habit.

It's after the season when the evaluations occur where these types of determinations will be finalized.

RIP to this season. I get that coaches are creatures of habit but good grief when something is CLEARLY not working you gotta make changes.
The quote above is what I said yesterday in the Arthur Smith thread. This is how all football coaches are wired, not just Smith or Day. They are going to focus on execution more than they are going to rip up the scheme they've been running since spring practices in April. That's just how it is.....

And while I have my own doubts about it being executed at a high enough level in college to make it work consistently, I still have hopes they're going to win out and make the CFP. I'm not about to commit seppuku over a fucking college football team like some of this fanbase seem to be doing this week....

It's definitely completely possible that they still win the regular season out. If they play clean and avoid the flood of self-inflicted penalties (especially in the RZ) they probably do win out, just not sure this unit is capable of that. But we will see.

Ryan Day needs his Ryan Day.

He needs to hand the offense over to someone that’s innovative and got some juice to him.

Remember 2017 when Ryan brought the crossers and all the crazy pass concepts? Where the hell is that guy?

Do we even run crossers anymore? Or are we just wondering how we can get another TE on the field?

This offense needs to be overhauled in the worst way when this season is over.

This TE thing is getting beat to fucking death.

It starts to cross into the realm of really tactical X&O stuff and at that level- who in the ever loving fuck are any of us to seriously question Day?

I’m not one to say only the pilot is qualified to fix the plane but good goddamn gents. Ryan Day has forgotten more about football than anyone here will know.

The entire NFL runs 3 TE stuff. Ryan Day like the concepts. I’m gonna just look at stats and body language in pressers to be honest. I can’t coach ball like Day can coach ball.
