2026 tOSU Offense Discussion

They could have shifted the line more, and maybe given Sayin another blocker in the backfield, but I rewatched a lot of the the game, and Sayin just flat out wouldn't throw the ball. Missed guys wide open. Like untouched for multiple TDs wide open. Its really hard to call offense and move the ball when your QB is just frozen. Its going to be interesting if he can shake off hits next year. Because this year he started to get that "Deer in the headlights" look, and sometimes guys can't shake that.

Obviously he has the talent, and the mind to win the heisman, I just hope we get tested more throughout the year next year, so he can work through more growing pains before its do or die.
Yeah it seems to have started vs IU but also he was missing the seams a lot all year and lot of open guys I noticed were in the seams but he also tunred down some open flats.

The D has been on fire in the portal. What offensively needs to be brought in? Try to keep Graham, and another OT? What else that is missing?

Need and need and need to focus on getting a PK and punter.

Besides an OT and PK, I think they need another RB to go with Bo Jackson. I'm not 100% sold on Isaiah West and/or the unproven Freshmen (i.e Rogers rsFr or Akih Fr).

The highest rated one that hasn't signed yet is Justice Haynes....; I believe that he actually would be a good pickup. Having 2 RB1s like Henderson and Judkins worked real well in 2024.

And obviously watching the DFBIA lose their collective minds would be an added bonus.

I can see why the coaches picked Sayin. Great arm, throws a very catchable ball, tight spiral, on target, etc. BUT the three Natty's won in the 2000s by the Bucks had QBs who would pull the ball and run if they had to. Hindsight, but maybe the shot at another NC was lost when the vote went against Kleinholz.

The biggest issue is, both Sayin and Stroud are capable of running. They just choose not to. Sayin is plenty athletic, yes he is a little light, but he can move well enough to move the chains when it is wide open to do so.

Its a coaching issue, and I hope Day realizes you can't coach the qb to play it safe all year, and then ask them to run the last few games of the year. You have to win with instinct and feel in those big games, and good instinct is built with repetitions in practice and games.

You have to let the qb run some all year. If he gets hurt, thats the sport.

Absolutely right. It's college football now and the pieces are constantly shuffling. We have 3 QBs this year including a Heisman candidate. Play to win every way possible.

This is simplifying the game way too much. Howard ran for 220 yards, Cardale ran for 80 in 3 starts, and Krenzel ran for 360. So OSU also hasn’t won an NC with a QB that’s run for more than 360.

I don’t mind Sayin running the ball more, especially options in short yardage. I don’t think it’s a magic key to unlocking more NCs, and it’s not worth sacrificing a better passing game for a handful of scrambles.

And I doubt the fanbase that wants to wrap players in bubble wrap and play the backups more will be ok with their QB getting hurt running the ball against Purdue.

Yeah he just needs to take free yard on occasion not run a bunch when he would get hit.

And in 14 games Sayin ran for 7 yds against Michigan, while compiling a total -72 yards in all games. The kid is a passing marvel, but he had three excellent WRs, two capable TEs, and at least one RB to work with. That worked well against Illinois, Penn State, and Texas. But his disinclination to run in the last two games allowed good defenses to concentrate on pass defense.

Nice, but I thought the problem as the O-line.

I wish they got somebody. I hope the off season development comes in.

There is still a chance. There very well could still be some new players in the transfer portal that Ohio State could make an offer to. There are at least 3 possibilities:

1) Indiana and Miami after the CFP Championship Game
2) Any school that hires a new head coach
3) Any graduate with eligibility
