People older than me might know the story behind 1975 or 1976 OSU vs Sparty. If I understand it correctly, Ohio State was trying to score the winning touchdown with seconds remaining. They ran the ball, didn't get in, ran back to run another play, snapped it, ran the play, and got the ball into the endzone. Ohio State left the field being told that they won the game.
Minutes later, the referees went into the Ohio State locker room and told them that they decided time had run out.
Does that count as a game being overturned? I think it does. I think once the referees say the game is over, it's over and they said Ohio State had won. Discussing it 2 seconds later is no different from discussing it 3 years later.
But... I've only heard Ohio State fans' accounts of the game - not anything official. Maybe Ohio State ran off the field believing they won, and referees already said they hadn't.
So, maybe it doesn't count as the game being overturned.

Another game that should be overturned is I think it was Duke vs. Miami a few years ago. Miami needed a Cal vs. Stanford play in order to win. The ACC came out a day or two later and said that the refs screwed up and the play should have been dead before the touchdown.

It was 1974 at Sparty. It took over 45 minutes for the Big Ten and commissioner Wayne Duke to decide that there was a penalty on tOSU on the play and that the TD didn’t count and the game had ended after a penalty on the offense, which can happen. Champ Henson had been stopped just short of the goal line (although Buckeye fans believe he had scored) with more than 10 seconds left, and Sparty players were staying on the pile to delay the next snap, The refs didn’t stop the clock, the Buckeyes snapped it and scored as time ran out but the team wasn’t properly set at the snap.

Sparty fans will tell you that earlier on that drive one of their LBs (don’t remember his name, just that he was a twin), had picked off a pass but wasn’t credited with a pick. Had there been replay back then they probably would’ve gotten that pick.

That game knocked tOSU from the #1 spot, but they still would have win a Natty if they had been able to stop a 2-point conversion on a diving catch in the end zone, after Pat Haden had hit coach’s son J.K.McKay on a bomb in the last 2 minutes of the Rose Bowl. The 2-point conversion was in the end zone way too close to my seat for me to ever forget it.

I believe that Sparty game was ( according to legend) was when Woody broke a leg off a table and was going to go after Wayne Duke in the locker room when he came in to tell him the result but was stopped by the players. The refs had long left the stadium so Duke delivered the news. That whole game a clown show. There was also a play in the 4th qtr when a Sparty receiver obviously trapped a catch at the ground but the refs called a catch for a 1st down and MSU when on to score on that drive. The TV announcers were even saying how bad the call was.

So.. I guess the question is whether the result of the game was changed after it was over? It sounds to me as though it was changed after the game was over.

No, the scoreboard was 16-13 Sparty when the clock went zero. One ref signaled TD and quickly waved it off, then there was uncertainty for a long time. Of course there was no game clock on the TV back then.

The sad thing is that the Buckeyes got a first down at the 1 with 29 seconds left, and the clock had been stopped for a measurement. Then tOSU only got 1 play off in those 29 seconds.

As I’ve suggested before, my view is that the lack killer instinct, turtling, and poor game management, is mostly endogenous to the program, and maybe even the culture of the state, more than being just a Day thing. The program should have a least a half dozen more natties than it does.
