2026 NCAA Tournament General Discussion

According to the trends........Arizona, Duke, or Michigan is going to win it all.

Since 2002, a team that finished in top 3 of KenPom has won it all except for 3 occasions.

2003 - Syracuse who had the best player in the country at the time, Carmelo Anthony
2011 - UConn who had the best/hottest player in the country at the time, Kemba Walker.
2014 - UConn......still have no clue how they won it that year. That was a weird year.

2014 UConn is unique. They did have the nation's #2 player that year according to Kenpom Shabazz Napier, but clearly they did it with a well-balanced team that played elite defense. Their final 3 games of the tournament that year they didn't give up more than 54 points in a game.

UConn is automatic when they advance. 6-0 in Title Games and one sole loss to MSU in the Final Four. All of this since 1999

Jim Calhoun was a brilliant coach who put together deep, balanced and talented rosters as good as anyone. He got some top-end recruits, but he was better at talent evaluation than most for sure. He was the rare coach who didn't win recruiting class rankings but ended up with top teams regularly. Hurley had a run of a few elite years with some of the same players on those title teams, but it doesn’t feel the same. Calhoun climbed the mountain with completely different teams.
