2026 NCAA Tournament General Discussion

I just flipped on the game with about a minute to go and figured I would see how it ended as the lead from halftime was about gone. Hell of an ending! The announcers said tourney teams with a 15 point lead at half were like 100+ something and zero. Guess Duke is now that 1.

And can someone who knows about college basketball explain why the duke coach did not take a timeout before the final possession to tell them to just hold it once they got it inbounds? I think they still had a timeout.

Scheyer looked like he was confidently telling them what to do. In actuality, they had no idea what to do that would keep them out of risk. It just goes to show you that the truly great bench coaches…..the ones you want to be your coach in moments like these…..are pretty rare. Scheyer has as good of a lineup as money can buy but Coach K isn’t sitting on that bench with him. The Florida coach doesn’t have Billy sitting on the bench with him. Hurley is the best all around coach in the game as far as I’m concerned. Like Kenny Smith said early today before the M-T game, “coach Hurley is so good he can steal a game he shouldn’t win”. We just witnessed him steal that game from duke.

Duke did have one timeout left. Maybe they wanted to save it in case they needed to use it on the court. I don't even think that was a situation where the coach needed to set anything special up. It's not that hard to avoid turning the ball over in 10 seconds when the other team has to foul you to avoid letting the clock run out. This game showed why teams with elite PG play tend to do better in the tournament, you need guys who don't make mistakes when the game is on the line. Duke's weakness was lack of a pure PG and they ended up with 13 turnovers compared with 5 for UConn.

Yes. You need that one or two guys who are quick enough to get open for a clean inbound vs a full-court press…..and to dribble or pass to the open space. Boozer was not able to dribble or pass to the open space. He should have called a TO.
