2025 tOSU Defense Discussion

What’s crazy about this defense is they’ve given up 75 points in 11 games. I can think of 4 games where there was a late score against the defense to add points.

Purdue, UCLA, Rutgers, and Illinois. In the case of UCLA and Rutgers they likely don’t score if the starters remain in the game. Thats 4 shutouts and 45 points against in 11 games for the starters. The starting defense is averaging a little more than a field goal against per game right now. That’s wild.

It was actually 75 points before the 9 by Rutgers in game 11.

That's wtf z I'm talking about! The record books won't say it but this might be the most dominant, overall, team in history - once they complete the season with the Natty. Annnddd we're playing the fewest snaps of anyone in the Top 20 in the country so it could easily be a lot worse.

I really hope, and expect, that MattyP has saved some magic for Underwood and The Game that hasn't been on film and I think we've got the spies in Reese, who's been relatively quiet lately, and Styles to keep him in check on the ground.

I think it's less about Underwood and more about all the different things they do to confuse gap soundness and run the ball.

I think you see something similar to what Penn State did and they come out and try everything known to football (formations, personnel groups, motion) to run. I don't think they will get away from it even if you stop them until they are down by more than 2 scores and in the second half.

Then you can have fun with Underwood but they aren't going to stop being themselves. They know Patrica's defense is too much for Underwood to drop back, read correctly and throw against straight up. Run to keep the OSU offense off the field. Run to set up the pass and protect your freshman QB. Run, run run.

It’d be nice to heat up Underwood on 3rd down. We’ve had a few 3rd and long situations given up over the last month or so if there’s one thing we could improve a bit on.

We have got to get off the field when we have the chance this week.

pass rush discipline will be paramount on Saturday

The delayed rush from Downs last week seems like a fun thing to now have on tape. They'll have to pay attention to that and just when they do... bring the heat from the second level and let downs fill the vacated LB.
