2025 Spring Practices, Spring Game, and other Tidbits

Could only catch snippets from my telephone, but were there any other local kids (non-tOSU) that were included at Pro Day? Or do these extras fill in when there's not 17+ hopefuls working out before what appeared to be NFL 100% represented? Thanks to those that included their viewings on this page. Glad to see our guys elevating themselves from the masses at Indy. Home cookin' is best. Massive increase in Will's performance. Guess the take-away is that he can make all the throws (if can assume throws same as at Indy), to targets he knows well. What I saw was actually better than games, hitting the WR in stride, rather than having WR 'stutter-step/wait' a heartbeat or two before ball arrives. Hopefully the pro coaches were available for the writers question "Did X increase their draft standing in your eyes?" or somesuch.
Apparently Miyan Williams was allowed to participate:

I'm sure that participation in the Ohio State Pro Day by anyone that isn't a current Ohio State player is by "invitation only".

Following the NFL Combine, the Buckeyes had a few guys who were hoping for some better performances in the friendly confines of the Woody. Will Howard was one of those players. He didn't have the best Combine but had a much better performance on Wednesday.

Howard was a lot more accurate with his deep and intermediate passes. Those were the kinds of passes that he was struggling with in Indy. His tape shows that he can make those throws, too. Howard wasn't the only Buckeye to improve his stock, though.

Receiver Emeka Egbuka was also someone who improved his stock. His 40-yard dash time improved from what he ran in Indy. He ran a 4.45, which could bump him up to being a first-round pick. He is someone who is on the fringes of being a first-rounder so that time should help him.

Jordan Hancock is perhaps the guy who helped himself the most. The cornerback didn't get to show a lot of snaps on the outside, but he equipped himself to be a pretty good nickel guy. His numbers at Pro Day certainly helped his stock about as much as they possibly could have.

No one ran a faster 40-yard dash time than Hancock. He ran a 4.42, which is really darn fast. He also had the best vertical jump, getting up 41.5 inches. Basically, he showed how good of an athlete he is. Whichever team decides to draft him is getting a steal because he could be a fourth-round pick.

Ryan Day says Ohio State football program wouldn't participate in joint practices

The Ohio State football program is deep into Spring practice. They are preparing to play in the Spring Game in a couple of weeks, which will give fans a chance to see the 2025 Buckeyes for the first time. Some other programs are hoping to possibly do some joint practices.

Colorado and Syracuse have talked about doing a joint practice instead of a Spring Game. That would be very interesting to watch for the fans of both teams. Despite the risk of injury, it seems like both programs would be okay with doing something like this.

Ryan Day was asked about possibly doing something like this in the future with the Ohio State Buckeyes and some other program. While Day thinks that something like this should be allowed, he would not allow his program to participate in such activities.

Day thinks that it's a good idea for the fans but that the risk of injury is too high to allow the Buckeyes to participate in something like that.

Ryan Day said he believes teams should be allowed to hold joint spring practices if they want to. Doesn’t sound like Day is eager for Ohio State to participate in joint practices, though, because of injury concerns.

Get a $1 Baseball vs. Minnesota Ticket with Purchase of a Spring Showcase Ticket
No April Fools here. The Buckeyes are kicking off spring with an exciting offer tied to your Spring Showcase ticket. When you purchase a ticket to the Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 12, you can add on a ticket to the Ohio State vs. Minnesota baseball game for just $1! That’s right—after securing your spot to see the reigning national champions back on the field, you can keep the game day vibes going with a bonus baseball matchup for just one buck.

FWIW, on Zach Smiths show he dropped a few interesting things. He does have friends in the WHAC still and his comments combined with how Day seems to be a bit stressed about the offense this would make sense.

Apparently (according to Zach) Lincoln probably isn’t OSU quality and Julian is struggling right now. Went as far to say there’s toughness issues with Julian. Needless to say not great news lol

He went on to mention though that there’s some that think the defense is better right now than last years defense. Especially on third down where they apparently bring both Hicks and Reese off the edge.

TBH I believe him. Coach Day has an overall unease I sense when he’s talking about the offense and he’s mentioned how well the defense is playing (especially CJ).

If so that’s a bit concerning though. Personally I would’ve liked to have seen another portal QB to give us more options before camp.

No inside info, just my observation from afar. It did seem a bit risky seeing there’s only three qbs. The hope is Julian lives up to his billing; Lincoln turned out to be competent; and Tavien grows up quickly.

None of these seems to be guarantees, but all are plausible though. If Dylan can perform well in Nebraska, no reason not to hope 2nd year Julian or even Tavien (with time to develop) be as good, if not better.

To me, toughness in QB means get first down when the team needs it. As tough as Krenzel, he didn’t try to be the toughest on every play, just when the team needs. I hope and believe Julian is smart enough to realise that.

I can understand Day’s plan though. If none of these three pans out, then a re-evaluation of the QB selection might be warranted.

If smth was right, then I am happy because great defence can carry the team far.

Questioning Julian’s toughness is a bit of more hanging fruit though. Did he have anything to back it up? Being handsome doesn’t equal soft. Just look at Joe Burrow.

I honestly can’t see how Ryan can do better in terms of coaching, coaching team management, and roster management. I’m cautiously optimistic about this year’s team. Go bucks!

That’s eventually what Smith said…

Said that’s fine but that means we need to be good at running the ball and then you go play action deep to Smith etc. not to mention utilizing the TEs.

Awful risky to only have 3 QBs with none proven but if we can get QB figured out we’ll be right there again

What to expect from the Ohio State football Spring Game

Now that Ryan Day is calling it a Spring Game, here's what you can expect to see.

The Ohio State football team will have a Spring Game this season. There was a question as to whether or not the Buckeyes were going to have that coming into the year. It was something that Ryan Day wouldn't commit to for quite a while. he wanted to give himself an out in case there were injuries.

Now that he has confirmed that there will be a Spring Game, the fans will get a chance to see this year's version of the team as they head to the Shoe. It won't be a showcase, which likely would have entailed more seven-on-seven as opposed actual football being played.

So now that we know that there going to be more of a traditional game being played this season, what should fans expect from the game? What should fans watch closely during the Spring Game that could give them some insight as to what the depth chart will look like this Fall?

What Ohio State football fans can expect from the Spring Game

If you're expecting to figure out who the starting quarterback is going to be, you will be disappointed. Day won't officially name a starter until the Fall. While it likely will be Julian Sayin, he has to show more consistency in order to earn the right to be the starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Fans can expect to learn what kind of defense the Buckeyes will be running. Matt Patricia hasn't told the media what his base defense will be under him. Under Jim Knowles, they ran a 4-2-5. Patricia has the reputation of running multiple defenses, so it will be interesting to see what he comes out to start the Spring Game with.

Certainly Day is a bit frazzled. After winning the Natty, the only way one can go is down, unless of course, they stay even. Big ask what with all the seasoned talent that will soon grace the NFL. tOSU is very lucky to have the two best players in college football, now all one has gotta do is surround them with comparable talent. Does tOSU have it? Certainly, but as of now, unproven. Have seen glimpses, but not proven. QB has a very experienced, and talented QB calling the shots. Now, the talent level might be a tad more elevated, but the experience quotient is very low. On all three wanna-be's at QB. Knowing when to throw is better (IMHO) than being able to throw. Certainly our Buckeyes will be all right, and I'm penciling them into the playoff now.....but there will be rocky times ahead, as the rubber meets the road. We'll see if the DEs will have that extra gear in them during the fourth quarter. Whether the re-molded DBs can hold up against some of these hotshot throwers from opponents. Strangely enough, am most at peace with the OL. Yeah, I read all the good things tOSU beat writers say, including how much they love Bowen, so I see the OL working against our DL, and holding it's own. Time will tell, certainly, and believe the pieces are all there. Go Bucks!

Three areas of concern for Ohio State football ahead of the 2025 season

After losing so many starters from last year’s national title team, there are going to be some growing pains at spots for Ohio State in 2025.

We are a little more than a week away from Ohio State’s spring practices wrapping up with the “spring showcase” at Ohio Stadium next Saturday. With a few weeks of practices under their belt, we are starting to get a better idea of what the starting lineup might look like when the Buckeyes welcome Texas to Columbus at the end of August for the season opener for both teams.

While there are a few positions that are rock solid, such as the wide receiver group with Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and others, there are other positions that there will be plenty of questions about throughout the spring and summer. Today we are going to look at three positions that still feel pretty fragile.

Luckily there is still almost five months before the season kicks off, so any positional questions have plenty of time to put in work ahead of the Texas game.

Defensive tackle

Running back

Strong safety

Just sayin': I still say quarterback is the primary concern for the 2025 Buckeyes.

Still early on but seems like Dakota is starting to separate himself at QB.
Meh, one thing I’ve learned over the years is all sorts of guys get accolades in the Spring that never translates to playing time in the Fall.

Don’t get me wrong, love to hear that there is some good competition here, as that bodes well for the season. But, it’s a long way to the first game.
