i wouldn't say they woulda been sub .500 but they probably woulda floated around the pre 2021 Harbaugh average. Which is a 7-9 type win team who can maybe hit 10 wins every so often due to a good group of 5th/6th year guys, not a serious national threat. They are back to I guess that now except it's uglier, it's a weak schedule this year that's keeping them from totally sinking. This is a .500 level football team that's gonna sneak out 8 or 9 wins because teams like Wisconsin, Sparty and Purdue are just that incompetent.
I wouldn’t count Sparty out just yet. That game is in East Lansing this year and it may be a “Win or be Fired” scenario for Smith.

It could happen. Webster and Green could come back as 20 year old kids who want to jack your ass. Milt Plum might be loosening up in the bull pen. Lorenzo White and Andre Rison might be taking a log sips from the fountain of youth, Duffy might appear to Smith in a dream and teach him how to coach. The NCAA could be watching tape of the USC game and suddenly announce, "You know, we made a huge mistake. Wipe the slate for the last three years. Underwood is ineligible, and Moore is on a three year suspension.

And I did think USC was going to score points but give up more.

It all could happen. But this ain't Hollywood and East Lansing is flat broke.
