2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

*checks notes* I must've been absent that day, where's the connection?
A Tennessee fan named "Sports Talk J" (no relation to Uncle T) has a theory that in 2022 scUM stole Tennessee's signs and gave them to South Carolina so that South Carolina could beat Tennessee thereby knocking the Vols out of the playoff picture and increasing scUM's chances of getting in. As ESPN said in its postgame recap:

"Spencer Rattler had the best day of his unpredictable career, throwing for 438 yards and six touchdowns as South Carolina beat No. 5 Tennessee 63-38 on Saturday night, all but eliminating the Volunteers from the playoffs."

“That was probably the best I've ever felt in a game. I felt unstoppable,” said Rattler, adding he thought it was one of the best wins in college football history.

Here's one of Sports Talk J's earlier podcasts on the matter:

The D wore wristbands for the first (and maybe only time that season). And it was a home game against Tenn. A potential playoff team.

If true and if this was considered as part of the current COI, I don’t know how you don’t burn it down to ashes. Manipulating games you are in by cheating is bad… I am not sure that there’s a word that I can come up with for rigging games of potential opponents. My God…

They should be made to wear a scarlet C on their uniforms for the rest of time.

It is likely that they also shared signs with the Gamecocks for their Clemson game.

They beat playoff contenders back to back immediately after losing to 6-7 Florida by a 32 point margin.
They would have been 6-7 themselves without the cheating.

They beat playoff contenders back to back but lost to every other decent team they played in 2022.

My best guess as of 11:30 this evening is that Kostner circled back and bucked CMU's official narrative to preserve whatever coaching career he has ahead of him.

CMU is hosed. UM is almost certainly more hosed.

There are pieces that haven't been uncovered yet. And none will be good for the winged helmet bunch.
"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhm We don't give a damn for the whole state of michigan, the whole state of michigan, the whole state of michigan...burn that piece of shit to the ground!"

Show the numbers! ...
ummm ok

The above is a result of a quick-and-dirty DSA of Rattler's numbers on the season.

It shows his PE vs each opponent and his quick-and-dirty Differential PE against each opponent.

Context is important: Of the 4 games where Rattler did better than the average performance against his opponent, 2 of those games occurred with the fewest and the 2nd fewest passing attempts of the season. His performance against KY coincided with the Cocks' run-heaviest gameplan of the year by far. The second fewest passing attempts came against Vandy, and that just happened to be his second best passing game of those that are not under suspicion.

Then we have the other two games above the mean.

Against Tennessee, SR had by far his best game of the year in spite of having his HIGHEST pass attempts on the season. He threw one fewer pass against Clemson, but still managed to throw two interceptions. Regardless, he still had a rare day above the mean.

The Clemson game is suspicious. Against all other teams with a pulse, Rattler was ass. And then he wasn't. In other games where he threw the ball that much, he was unwiped ass. And then he wasn't.
The Tennessee game is glaring. Outliers that big are rare. Outliers that big when the context suggests that particular data point should be an outlier in the other direction are damn near dispositive.
