I wouldn't even necessarily make the assumption that it destroyed his family. The wife could very well be aware that he's a serial player/sex addict type and she stays married as long as the checks keep coming in.

The fireworks start when he gets stupid, violates the principles of Mutual Assured Destruction and the paychecks are at risk (or gone) because he fucked someone who had a lot less to lose than he did, she predictably hit the nuclear option button when something went wrong (didn't get that next 55% raise or whatever) and then he snapped. Not because he's unstable, not because he's overcome with guilt but because he didn't really think it could blow up and it just blew up.

It's as probable a scenario as any other I have seen.

So Warde went to negotiate and completely misjudged how fragile Moore was. Moore flips the fuck out instead of taking the de escalated off ramp they were offering, Warde's ego or institutional arrogance takes over and he just fires the fucking guy thinking "I don't care who he is or what he knows, we'll survive/you can't talk to me like that" kind of shit.

This isn't a conspiracy. It isn't chess. It's checkers between a psycho and an arrogant moron.

I was told the law firm that investigated the "competitive integrity" issues in 2023 was instructed by then-president Santa Ono to report the results of the firm’s investigation in oral form only to eliminate a paper trail. The firm presented their results to Ono, the Office of the President (which was essentially Ono’s direct reports) and some members of the athletic department. I was told that, at Ono’s direction, no recording devices, cellphones or note-taking were allowed in the presentation.

Ono probably thinks he’s Edward fucking Snowden. He’s already fled to Liechtenstein until this all blows over.
