2025 NFL Draft April 24 - 26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay

Stomp!

Reunited with CJ Stroud down in Houston. Can't be any more impressed with the way Houston has stepped on the gas the past couple seasons. He has plenty of weapons around him now if they can all stay healthy

OHIO STATE HAS ONLY FOUR PLAYERS SELECTED, FEWEST IN 11 YEARS, IN 2024 NFL DRAFT

Ohio State’s 2024 NFL draft class is its smallest in 11 years.

For the first time in over a decade, Ohio State had fewer than five players selected as only four members of last year’s roster were chosen in this year’s NFL draft: Marvin Harrison Jr., Mike Hall, Cade Stover and Tommy Eichenberg.

OHIO STATE’S 2024 NFL DRAFT PICKS
ROUND PICK PLAYER POS TEAM
1 4 MARVIN HARRISON JR. WR ARIZONA CARDINALS
2 54 MIKE HALL JR. DT CLEVELAND BROWNS
4 123 CADE STOVER TE HOUSTON TEXANS
5 148 TOMMY EICHENBERG LB LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Ohio State’s four selections are the fewest they’ve had in a draft since 2013, when Johnathan Hankins, John Simon and Reid Fragel were the only Buckeyes drafted.

Two other former Ohio State players who did not finish their careers at OSU were selected in the late rounds of the draft. Former OSU cornerback Ryan Watts, who transferred to Texas in 2022, was selected in the sixth round (No. 195 overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Former Buckeye defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who transferred to Notre Dame in 2023 after five years at Ohio State, was selected in the seventh round (No. 222 overall) by the Washington Commanders.

Five members of last year’s Ohio State football team who entered the 2024 NFL draft went undrafted: safety Josh Proctor, linebacker Steele Chambers, wide receiver Xavier Johnson, guard Matt Jones and running back Miyan Williams. Each of them will now look to sign with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.

Going into this year’s draft, Ohio State had a streak of 10 consecutive drafts in which at least five players who finished their college football careers were selected. That was the second-longest streak among all schools behind only Alabama, which extended its streak of drafts with at least five picks to 15 straight years.

Ohio State should have a more prolific draft in 2025 after a multitude of draft-eligible players who would have likely been selected this year chose to stay at Ohio State for their senior seasons instead. Running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, left guard Donovan Jackson, defensive ends Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock are among the players who likely would have been drafted this year that will instead play another season for the Buckeyes in 2024.

Just sayin': Which is a very good thing.......8D

Three Sons of NFL Greats Reportedly Learn Fates on Draft's Last Day

On the last day of the NFL draft, three legendary football families have reportedly added new members to the league.

The first came Saturday during the waning rounds of the draft. In the seventh round, the Los Angeles Chargers took USC wide receiver Brenden Rice with the 225th pick—the son of Hall of Fame former San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jerry Rice. Rice caught 45 passes for 791 yards in 12 games with the Trojans this season.

Later, two more sons of NFL greats reportedly inked contracts as undrafted free agents.

Remember When: Ohio State Set a Previous NFL Draft Record in 2004 with 14 Buckeyes Selected As Most Players From One School in a Single Year

155862_h.jpg

Next week, Ohio State hopes to recapture at least a share of an NFL record the school once held for nearly two decades.

At the start of this month, 15 Buckeyes from last season's National Championship squad held projections that would see them selected inside the 257 picks comprising the seven rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. That would tie the record Georgia set three years ago when the Bulldogs surpassed Ohio State's previous record of 14 picks from one school in a single draft that had stood for 18 years, and undisputed for 16 until 2020 when LSU tied it.

So how does the upcoming class compare to the record-setting one from just over two decades ago? Let's look back at 2004 to get a better sense.

Ohio State was roughly a year-and-a-half removed from its National Championship win over Miami as the 2004 NFL Draft drew near in late April. Coincidentally, the
Hurricanes held the record for most picks from one school in a single year at that moment after seeing 11 players selected during the 2002 draft.

Miami had five players go in the first round that year, including two players among the top 15 overall picks. The Buckeyes did not expect as much top-heavy success, but having so many holdover players from the title-winning team a season earlier now with another year of experience on their resumes provided optimism that OSU would still see many selections.

The late Will Smith (DE) went off the board first among Ohio State's players at 18th overall to the New Orleans Saints. Despite the lofty total of Buckeyes that would ultimately hear their names called in this draft, Smith became the only member of the bunch to ever make a Pro Bowl. He would go on to start in all but 19 of his nearly 140 career games and ended his NFL career with 67.5 total sacks. He also tied as the league leader in forced fumbles during his rookie season and helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV.

Back-to-back Buckeyes would then see themselves selected towards the end of the first round, with Chris Gamble (CB) going 28th overall to the Carolina Panthers and Michael Jenkins (WR) heading to the Atlanta Falcons at 29th overall. Gamble started in all but six of the 123 career games he played with the Panthers, recording over 500 tackles and 27 interceptions along the way.

Although the 2004 NFL Draft class for Ohio State did not reach a great deal of collective high-level success among the professional ranks, it nevertheless remained the standard among deep classes from one school for nearly two decades. The upcoming class offers many similar pre-draft similarities to its predecessor.

The record-setting class consisted of six linemen along both sides of the ball, one linebacker, two defensive backs, a quarterback, two receivers, a tight end and a punter. Next week's anticipated class of Buckeyes features seven players along the line of scrimmage, one linebacker, three defensive backs, and a combination of three running backs and receivers. Will Howard rounds out the expected picks as a quarterback currently enjoying much greater draft hype than what Krenzel experienced.

The current number of expected first-round picks for next week's class remains a subject of debate and speculation. Josh Simmons (OT) seems the most likely candidate with an expected position in the early back-half of the opening round.

From there, the matter becomes much more uncertain. Emeka Egbuka (WR), Tyleik Williams (DT), Donovan Jackson (OL), and TreVeyon Henderson (RB) have all enjoyed first-round speculation at various points during their draft preparation, but many experts still expect most of these players to fill out the second round or even drop into the third. NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero referred to Egbuka and Williams in particular as "potential surprise first-rounders" earlier this week.

Of course, the 2004 class appeared to only have one first-rounder poised to become a part of its legacy before the final five picks yielded an additional two for the Buckeyes. It's possible a similar late run for Ohio State players is in store next week, given all the potential candidates recognized for their talents by various analysts.

Regardless of what fate has in store for the first few days of the draft, Ohio State at least seems poised to have extremely strong middle rounds as the class of 2004 did. Roughly 11 of the 15 players anticipated to find themselves selected should go within the first five rounds. Only Jordan Hancock (DB), Cody Simon (LB), Seth McLaughlin (C) and Ty Hamilton (DT) held aggregate draft projections beyond the first 160 picks at the start of the month.

Assuming all 15 of them avoid any drops in stock and combine to tie Georgia's 2022 record, two long-shots will remain in the prospect pool and hope to hear their names called as the new record-setting 16th Buckeye in the class. Some may believe it will take a miracle for Gee Scott Jr. (TE) or Jakailin Johnson (DB) to avoid undrafted free agent status, but many teams picking at the end of the seventh round often find themselves grasping at straws anyway.

If a Buckeye-friendly general manager sees an opportunity to make NFL history, perhaps Ohio State could recapture the once-held glory of its 2004 class.

This site predicts 4 Buckeyes going in the first round:

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Titans make shocking selection at one, Cam Ward finds perfect landing spot, Jalen Milroe goes top 25

18. Seattle Seahawks: Donovan Jackson, OL, Ohio State

It's a near certainty that the Seahawks won't take a guard at this spot, but they should. Jackson is a very talented guard who had a great run at left tackle to finish the year. Give Sam Darnold plenty of protection.

20. Denver Broncos: TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

This is the joker that Sean Payton has wanted to have in the room for the Broncos. It might be a little high, but Henderson can be used in the same way he maximized Alvin Kamara in New Orleans.

24. Minnesota Vikings: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State

The Vikings do not need a wide receiver this high, but Egbuka is what head coach Kevin O'Connell likes at the position: route running savant, good after the catch, and does all the little things. Egbuka has some Cooper Kupp to his game in that sense and we know how O'Connell maximized him in Los Angeles.

25. Houston Texans: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

The best offensive lineman on the board should be going to Houston. Protect CJ Stroud at all costs.

I’ve heard NOTHING on Quinn Ewers.
Where is he projected?

2025 NFL QB mock draft: Predicting the landing spot for the top 10 quarterbacks in this year's class

From Shedeur Sanders to Riley Leonard, here's where the top quarterbacks in the draft will land

Just sayin': I find this article amusing to 2 reasons.

1. They have their 8th best QB going to the Browns as the 4th QB taken:
Round 2, Pick 33, Tyler Shough (8th best) to the Browns
With seven years spent at the college level, Shough was basically the Van Wilder of college football, so there's certainly some risk involved for any team that drafts him. However, spending some extra time in college can be a good thing and we learned that last year with Bo Nix thriving in Denver after spending five years at the collegiate level. Although I have the Browns taking Shough at 33rd overall, it wouldn't be surprising if they traded up to the bottom of the first round to make this pick since all first-round rookie contracts come with a fifth-year option...

2. The QBs taken after Will Howard and rated lower:
Round 3, Pick 80, Will Howard (5th best) to the Colts
Round 3, Pick 101, Kyle McCord (7th best) to the Rams
Round 4, Pick 108, Quinn Ewers (6th best) to the Raiders
Round 4, Pick 135, Dillon Gabriel (9th best) to the Dolphins
Round 5, Pick 154, Riley Leonard (10th best) to the Giants

I see the Browns going after Kyle McCord, in either the 3rd or 4th round. McCord is kind of like the young Joe Flacco, so clearly they will want to have them together.
