2025 NFL Draft April 24 - 26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay

My Chargers friend was whelmed, Broncos friend is now a Bengals fan, Bears friend is pretty excited (he has no ties to OSU and lives in Chicago for what it’s worth). Kind of an all over the place draft situation in the friend group.

Bears are giving Williams everything he needs… if the line holds up.

I slept on it and I'm talking myself off a ledge. Reasoning is as follows:

1). The front office believes that Cousins is probably worth 3-4 more wins a year vs. the absolute baby shit factory we saw the past two years with Mariotta and Ridder. They probably aren't wrong. The 2024 Falcons are a 10 or 11 win team and stand a strong chance of winning the division. That puts their draft position somewhere between 20-26 next April. Even if they LOOOOVE Shadeur Sanders or Carson Beck or Ewers or whomever, the price to move up to get them next year, is far too steep. Take the guy you like now, coach him up for two years then turn him loose. I understand and can justify this.

2). He wouldn't have been there later if you traded back. As bad as Atlanta is getting it for taking Penix at 8, IMO Denver should be getting it equally as bad for Nix at 12. Seattle, Denver and Minnesota called Atlanta and wanted their pick but didn't offer enough. It is likely they would have taken Pennix over Nix and McCarthy. Here is noted Buckeye James Palmer confirming as such.





They absolutely loved the guy and knew he wasn't going to be there later. So they moved.


Problems:

The Falcons have a communication problem. For two months we've been hearing and the front office has confirmed we are in "WIN NOW" mode. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone knows teams/franchises have windows of success.
But don't tell me you're in WIN NOW mode and then draft someone who literally cannot play for two years. That's the very opposite of WIN NOW. This pisses me off.

I don't really care about Penix's age and injury history if he is going to sit for two years. Injuries will continue to heal and age has much more to do with "tread on the tires/NFL Wear and Tear" but you better have a plan to take players that can immediately contribute TODAY. We have three picks today and all better hit.

I’m not gonna shit on Denver because they didn’t just give a QB $100 mill guaranteed. The Penix pick is the dumbest pick in NFL draft history.

Nix at that spot feels dumb though, I agree. But it’s hard to top historic levels of stupidity.
