2025 NFL Draft April 24 - 26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay

A 5’11 QB with injury history and limited arm strength? What is there not to hate about it?
Limited arm strength? Who said that? Everything I've read has said he has a decent enough arm to make all the throws.....

Not buying the injury angle either - the guy was a stats accumulator...and you don't get to do that if you're hurt all the time.

And I want to point out - it isn't Sanders. That's an automatic plus in my book.

The nfl comps for him were Truck Driver U/Cowboys wonder OC Kellen Moore.

I get that it’s not sanders but take a flyer on a guy who might have a chance here’s one breakdown of his strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Consistent production throughout his career.
  • Elite total touchdown numbers, with 189 scores over 64 games.
  • Has developed a decent feel for where to go with the football.
  • Trusts his protection and rarely appears jittery in the pocket.
  • Throws with good touch and natural operation.
  • Equally capable with arm or legs when he exits the pocket.
  • Dual-threat potential becomes elevated on third downs or near the end zone.

Weaknesses

  • Lacks prototypical size for the position.
  • Passing scheme allows him to work into big, defined windows.
  • Vast majority of 2024 targets were inside of 10 yards, including 25% behind the line, per PFF.
  • Average quickness getting through full-field scans.
  • Sits on intermediate targets too long with his eyes.
  • Ball placement and accuracy isn’t as good as it looks on paper.
  • Lacks arm strength to lead receivers on deep shots off play-action.
  • Deep-out and deep-seam throws lose their energy.
Again this a draft guide but still they don’t blatantly lie about kids in these.

This is what I read about him...

Pre-Draft Analysis

Gabriel broke the FBS records for starts (60) and total touchdowns (179). He's a small left-handed quarterback who makes quick decisions and gets the ball out. He has good poise in the pocket, his feet are married to his eyes, and he gets to his second read when his first option isn't there. Gabriel's arm is strong enough to make every throw, and he can layer passes when throwing with a strong base. He extends plays, finds receivers late and makes off-platform throws. He's quick and is a threat to scramble for first downs. -- Steve Muench

=====================================

Those two analyses seem to be at odds with one another.

I don't buy into the "ideal size" bullshit anymore. The "ideal size" argument has gotten wayyyyyy too many statues highly drafted as quarterbacks. I'll take accuracy and decision making over a lot of other things and Stefanski does have a history of working with that type of QB. I think it's a worthy flyer for a team that isn't going to contend this year short of a miracle. I would have rather had Howard or Ewers if they were going to get a QB personally, but that's not in the cards and I don't usually wish being on the Browns on Buckeye players. As a supplemental pick, I thought they were going to go with the best tackle or best receiver on the board at the time.

Flacco is the starter and if Gabriel doesn't work out, so be it. He's already better than Kenny Pickett with his tiny hands, and supposedly next year is the QB draft in any case.

But like I said, it's all trumped by it not being Sanders.
