2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

I don’t even see the new league as being just the BIG/SEC. Some of those teams don’t belong in the Super Teams League. Rutgers see ya, Miss St you’re out, etc. Best 32 teams.

Exactly.

The little guys are going to fight like mad though. They know damn good and well that only a handful of teams actually move the needle and they are just trying desperately to come along for the ride.

Personally, I'd rather teams that won a conference championship (any conference) have a shot than teams that finished fucking 5th in a conference. I felt this way last year, too, though I'm happy we won it all, I'm not really sure we "deserved" to be there. But I guess I'm a traditionalist who remembers when 1 loss was basically the death knell for being called "national champion" but we still had the chance to win the B1G and go to the Rose Bowl.

I feel like the 5th best SEC/B1G team is way better than the best Mountain West team and don't care to see the MWC team get ass pounded in a tournament just to be "fair" to little guys.

Domer tears are sweet stuff but the 12 team field would be better with them and one more major team in it than this JMU, Tulane nonsense.

Well, I hate the fact that it's 12 teams, in general. But if we're including 12 teams, we should be looking at champions, not also-rans. We took a P5 argument (5 champions for 4 spots) and expanded it 3 fold for no reason. Should have just went to 6 teams, IMO. 5 Champs, 1 "best of the rest".

We didn't do shit.

TV expanded it for money.

They expanded Bowls back in the 70's for the same reason.

It's entertainment. People want more of it, not less.

They will make the field bigger, give all the little boys a seat at the table for a proper 1st round exit and then still leave room for the interesting teams from the big boy league(s) just like every other major professional sport does with wild cards.

No one is going back to division/conference winners only in any sport.

Exactly. Follow the money.

It's never really been about finding a "true" National Champion.

Yuck. I know it’s all coming but it sure doesn’t make me enthusiastic about the future.

The bigger the league (32-48 teams), with only big boy teams, the more likely you get revenue sharing and then parity. Buckeyes’ chances at winning titles then diminishes.

Sorry but I quite like that Ohio State is positioned in the 1% now. I have enough shitty, pro teams that never accomplish anything.
