2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

No more than 3 from any one conference? If you can only take 3 from the ACC, Big 12, Big 10 and SEC, that gives you 12 teams. That leaves you 4 teams from bad non power 5. That is if the ACC and Big 12 doesn't suck. If they have a down year and you only take 2 from each of those, that leaves 6 from the non power 5 conferences.

I would leave out any independent team. I am looking at you ND.
I prefer that than some 7th place SEC team. Ideally we'd cut back to 8 teams with no bye, but they're never going to downgrade. So I'd rather invite all the conference champs and runners up than some team that was 5-4 in a "better" conference.
This year my playoff teams would look like:
OSU, IU, Oregon
Bama, Georgia, TAMU
Duke, Miami, Virginia
Texas Tech, BYU, Utah
JMU
Tulane
ND
North Texas or Navy

Really not that much different than what we got, but your top 8 teams get to play that game instead of a bye, and that game is more of a warm-up game since you're playing a G5 type team. So you're actually prepared for the quarterfinals.

I want to reward teams for success, not for name on jersey and hypotheticals.

All other football divisions play the following week after the conclusion of the regular season. D1 needs to do the same. It’s stupid to have long layoffs. Hell, look how rusty NFL players get when they don’t play the last couple games before the playoffs(once they win their division). I hope to hell Indiana beats Bama. I sure as hell don’t want an all SEC championship game. I’m not sold on Oregon. As shitty as we played at times last night, we kill tech by 28. Almost wish the committee would’ve dropped us to 4th when we lost to Indiana. Miami doesn’t look like the 10th best team. More like 5th or 6th (even though they beat us).

I agree that any system that limits ESPN's corrupt system is preferable. The rankings system is a joke so you can't just put teams in by just they rankings. You have convinced me.

yep, I knew keeping us at 2 was probably the worst outcome. 3 would have us playing Ole Miss with their interim coach, and didn't expect to go to 4 to set up back to back B1G matchups, potentially.

The long layoff further bastardizes every natty in college football history, one could argue.

At least before both teams had the same playoff. It is an "excuse" but playing 10 days earlier and riding the high from that win definitely puts the non BYE team in a better situation than the BYE team who's been sitting waiting to play for a month
