2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Where the Ohio State basketball team will be seeded in the NCAA Tournament

Coming into the game against TTUN, Joe Lunardi of ESPN has the Buckeyes as an eight-seed. Losing to the number-one seed in the Big Ten shouldn't hurt their seeding much, especially by falling by so few points. They will likely sit around that eight or nine-seed line.

Even though Ohio State lost, this game showed that they can compete with anyone in the country. They also had to play this game without Taison Chatman, who was injured in the Iowa game. Brandon Noel also played his first game in two months, so that gives them another player to put in the rotation if they want.

Looking at the stats, it seems that whether Juni and Tilly have a good game offensively generally determines whether OSU wins or loses.

Games this season where Juni's offensive rating is 100+, OSU has gone 17-4.
Games where Juni's offensive rating is below 100, OSU has gone 3-6, and two of the wins were narrow Ws vs. ND & @ Northwestern.
He was out 3 games where OSU went 1-2.

When Tilly has an offensive rating of 100+, OSU is 18-6.
Games where Tilly's offensive rating was below 100, OSU has gone 2-5, and the 2 wins were narrow @ Northwestern & vs. WVU.
He was out 2 games where OSU went 1-1.

Thought that tOSU played very well against Xichigan. Had we made some of our usual points around the basket, Thorton and Devin, then might have prevailed. Credit the skunkbears 7'3" center for being intimidating. Especially proud of the 'never quit' motto. Refreshing to see Noel get some minutes, but didn't see enough to tell whether he's 'game ready' or not. Also, the 'bench points' stat is a bit misleading when Diebs is using a short bench. Anyone else wondering if Cupps is holding back on shooting? Keep thinking he's holding back, so when comes to crunch time, he's baiting opponents to lay off him, and then he'll pop the game winner. Probably just a fantasy....

One thing about OSU's season that's probably vastly overlooked is the Buckeyes played Notre Dame when the Irish had their leading scorer, Burton. He was injured just 10 games into the season and they were without him the remainder of the season. They were 7-3 with Burton playing, and have won just 6 games since his injury (with a shocking home loss to IPFW). Beating Notre Dame with Burton was actually a solid win for the Buckeyes, it just didn't hold up due to their best player getting injured December 5th.
