2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but.....is Noel out for year? Hadn't heard Tilly being injured as well. What about the 'big guy -next hope' that was expected back in January? Thanks for the catch-up...
Noel is not out for the year necessarily, he's in a walking boot due to a foot injury. Obviously they hope to get him back at some point this season, or they would have already had announced plans for surgery or that he's out for the season.

Tilly has a head injury, and Diebler said today that he's still being evaluated as far as playing this weekend vs. UCLA. The word is "hopeful" ... certainly Tilly should be back in action sooner or later.

There is no other big guy that was expected back in January, but you may be thinking of Baylor transfer Josh Ojianwuna, who they have not made any definitive statement on playing this season, they keep saying they are going to make a decision every month about what he's going to do & haven't come out with it, but you would assume since he's waited this long with no word on his return, he's not going to play this season.

How many games are they allowed to play and still redshirt in basketball? As in football they can play 4 games and still redshirt, if he plays day the last two weeks and any tournament play could he still redshirt if he wanted to?

I think the rules are completely different. My understanding is if you play in any games at all from the mid-point game of the season onward, it counts as a year of eligibility in basketball. That's part of why I don't think Ojianwuna is likely to play now, he'd have to give up an entire year of eligibility for two months of games.

Very unexpected. I suppose the idea that he relied on inaccurate medical advice at PSU last year and would have had another full season but for that bad advice (presumably from a university authority figure) made a difference. It is difficult to join a team mid-season and make an impact, I wouldn't expect much for a few weeks.

Re: Johnson has been enrolled in classes at Ohio State since July, but has not been practicing with the team. It’s unclear when Johnson will join the Buckeyes, who play UCLA at home at 1 p.m. Saturday (CBS).
Johnson played for North Carolina for three seasons from 2020-23 before transferring to Penn State for two seasons. In 17 games at Penn State last season, Johnson averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Just sayin': Yeah, I agree. I doubt that he plays against UCLA tomorrow.....

He might never play for OSU. Apparently his eligibility could end when the next court hearing happens, January 30th. They must have him on the rocket docket.

IDK, maybe there is also the chance that the NCAA comes back and says no, you shouldn't be able to play sometime before next season.

Just sayin': Everyone agrees that under the NCAA's existing rules for a medical hardship waiver he isn't eligible for another year. Puff Johnson is arguing that the current NCAA rules for a medical hardship waiver violate the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and Ohio's Valentine Act, and shouldn't apply. As I understand it he is (basically) claiming that (collectively) his injuries over several seasons have cost him significant NIL money and he should be entitled to another season of eligibility to recoup those (alleged) NIL losses, etc. I just can't see the NCAA caving on this. If the courts eventually rule against the NCAA on this it will open up another round of class action suits against the NCAA by all past players effected, etc.

Might be a hot take at this point but my view is we have to win every Home game from here out to make sure we're invited to the Dance. Wont be easy, especially (notice no X in this word) with all the injuries. Find a way and get it done.

Sorry that is a pet peeve of mine hearing announcers say expecially. Ugh.
