2025-2026 College Basketball General Discussion

Coaching makes a big difference. Iowa and Corn aren't unloading the bank on hoops NIL either. We at least have equal talent to them
McCollum and Hoiberg have done an outstanding job this season. That being said, Jake Diebler managed to lead a team to the NCAA tournament even though it was one of the very worst in college basketball in terms of scoring off the bench & lacked strength in the post.

Saw McDermott is retiring from Creighton. Only 61 but I get the sense he doesn’t want to deal with today’s college landscape.

To think the Buckeyes almost had him to fill the vacancy in 2017. Hard to say how it would have gone for both sides. I’d say better than Holtman but still short of consistent Sweet 16’s we fans (rightly or wrongly) expect. But who knows.

Big 12 and ACC have been pushing to expand the NCAA tournament, currently totaling 68 teams. They are apparently going to move forward after the conclusion of this year's tournament and approve an expansion to 76 teams. The new format is expected to include 24 teams in the "play-in" phase of the tournament - there were 8 before, and now the last 8 that were "in" before will be demoted to the play-in, and the 8 expansion teams will also be there. They will have 12 play-in games spread over 2 sites, Dayton being one of the two.
