2024 Coaching Search Thread

I'm not saying that Diebler is the right guy, but I'm sure not excited about the options that have been floated out there. Duke, UNC, and Syracuse didn't have a problem keeping it in house with guys that had no head coaching experience. Granted, they coached under greats. There's also a lot more that goes into the job than X and O's and recruiting now days. How do you know who can handle all that with a minimal body of work from any coaching candidate in this era?

Can't say I disagree. Lamont Paris is the one that stands out to me if he is realistic, Ohio guy that is successful and seems charismatic. If we don't have a clear upgrade over Diebler, then just stick with him. I don't know jack about college basketball coaching though, so tifwiw.

I think we have our guy.
Found him!
So.. I don't follow basketball much. I'm aware of how this season has gone, but have only watched the equivalent of about 2 full games. What is the downside of Diebler? I mean, you could bring in any of the legendary coaches in their primes, and basketball will always be second to football at Ohio State. I'm not saying they shouldn't try to win the championships, but Diebler seems like a safe bet to make. And the basketball team and the situation they're in is where you make those kinds of bets. He isn't going to need some huge paycheck, yet, and he's shown that he can win these games. Give him a 2- or 3-year contract. Like someone else said here, best case scenario is that you've locked in your coach for the next 2 to 3 decades. When was the last time Ohio State had a head coach for 2 decades? Worst case scenario is probably that you're looking for a new head coach in 2-3 years.
